Do you buy dreamies?

I got almost all of my villagers through the camp-site. I like camp resetting and getting my villagers there because in a way they also feel like they're mine once and for all, if I don't really connect with them then I give them away. I used to sell and might sell a few more villagers because I'm almost at 50 million bells and want the postman's hat but other than that I don't really understand why people charge and pay so much for villagers...

I used to, but I stopped, cause people ask for mad amounts of bells for them xD But imo there's nothing wrong with selling/trading villagers.

It's not wrong, it's just.. (to me) weird.
Pay a million (or more) bells for a villager when they can show up in a cycling town and you can get them for free?
C'mon now..

I have to laugh, because you are right, of course. But I'm getting up there in years and am a SLOW cycler since I can't seem to keep a purely cycling town and I have to develop it and live it. So by the time I may get the villagers I want for free I could be long in my grave...

Totally kidding on that last part. I hope... :D

I used to feel weird about buying villagers too until I realized they aren't real and don't care if they've been "bought". Now when I pay for villagers I think of it more as a tip for the person being kind enough to let me invite the villager into my town. Especially if they took the time to TT the villager out for me.

I still give all my villagers away for free though, just because I like to. I like having to earn my bells, selling villagers for millions just seems too easy.

Regarding feeling more "attached" to villagers that originated in your town/campsite, well that's up to personal preference. I think it's adorable when villagers mention their old towns. As someone else said, it makes them feel more "real", like they had an actual life before I met them. (I think it's funny when villagers like Roscoe and Hazel, who originated in my town, talk about doing things "back home" -- I'm like, wait, where did you come from again??)

I do feel a little weird sometimes about getting villagers from cycle towns though. I cringe a little whenever Kyle mentions his old mayor "sjp" from "mfs" or whatever, because it reminds me that he came from a cycle town where the owner couldn't be bothered to give the mayor/town proper names. But it doesn't bother me to the point where I can't feel connected to him, or the other few villagers I obtained from cycle towns. I just tell myself that I rescued them from towns where they otherwise would've never gotten the love or attention they deserve. :p

Reese, that's brilliant! Agree!

Oooh I like your view on it.

I see why people would want that amount. They want to buy sets or DLC on this forum and they ask allot. I also want the ABD, yah dig?

Lol I just realized I contradicted myself. Ya I completely understand but I meant that asking for more than 10M for a villager is a little ridiculous. I mean I remember someone bought Ankha for 80M (or was it 100M?) once and blegh (or maybe it was a rumor lol idk I didn't actually see the thread, just saw people talking about it).

Although you can say that it's "just a game", many games have made me emotional especially if I work hard on them (OR THOSE STORYLINES!).

Must've taken more than an hour to transfer!

I can't even imagine how long it must've taken to transfer all that money.

She doesn't mean it that way. Just that that particular mechanic that we've invented isn't even known by the animals.

I've been fortunate and have been given a lot of great animals for free. Lolly and Fang in a giveaway raffle, Skye and Freya just for free. I have no problem with people paying for them, though. I've only paid for two: Molly for sweets furniture, Marina for TBT bells. Neither of those items were worth anything to me, so it's as good as free to me.

Like Reese, I only give away animals. As usual, her post was great! :)

I bought two, simply because I was too impatient to wait for a free Willow or Ruby to pop up.

Well, it is "just a game", but I never said you can't get emotional over games. I'm very attached to my villagers and my town and have invested way more hours into this game than I'd care to admit. But you've gotta put things into perspective sometimes -- villagers aren't real people and I can't stand when people compare buying/selling villagers to "slave trade" (not you, but I think at least one person in this thread did?).

Of course I'm not saying your point of view is wrong and I do understand why some people prefer to get villagers on their own, I was just sharing my view on it.

(Thanks to those who responded saying they agreed with me, by the way :) Wasn't expecting so many.)

I think that "slave" guy was joking tbh.
I think everyone should throw in their two cents also.

i never bought a dreamie, but i have bid for some (even though i knew i wasnt gonna win, i just wanted to be part of the auction).

i can understand the whole hard work town, i havent succumbed to time traveling yet, even though sometimes ill make a mistake and ruin plot resetting and im so tempted to tt, i try my best to keep my town as genuine as possible.

BUT IF ANYONE IS SELLING BUNNIE FOR CHEAP SHES MY BAE N I WILL BUY cause how long am i going to wait for? seriously my birthdays coming up and i love for her to celebrate it with me cause what an awesome birthday present.

but i feel you tho! i dont think it's wrong tho! whatever makes someone have fun in a game is what matters most.

I have been lucky enough that all my villagers have either moved in, from my campsite, I started with them, or someone gave them to me for free. I usually just lurk around cycling towns that give villagers away free regardless of tier because I can't afford a lot of the villagers I have at the regular sell prices. Plus it kind of weirds me out to think of it as buying friends. this is also why when/if I get a second copy for a cycling town, they will most likely be totally free. I think its cute when they talk about their old towns, probably mostly because I have had good experiences with people

As a random aside, this is the reason why when I use to cycle, I actually reset at one point and gave my cycle town a meaningful name - once I realized the villagers talk about their old towns, I didn't want my villagers going to other towns to talk about "ExtraTown", lol. So cyclers, change that name if you can! If that villager is someone's dreamie, they will keep him or her forever, and they will perpetually being talking about "Zero" or whatever throw away name you assigned to your cycle town. :)

Possibly, but I've definitely seen others say the same thing unironically.
ye, i've seen a lot of people vote down auction threads just because they feel it's like "selling villagers like they're slaves" and i mean
no??????????

Well, I got like half of my fav villagers from doing art so personally to me those villagers bring me good memories of the people who enjoyed my art and were super excited when I finished my piece for them. I got Stitches and Wolfgang naturally and I love them just as much as my art villagers but the art villagers bring some certain fond memories with them the "natural" ones don't.

I understand. Me I personally love earning things in-game instead of buying or getting them from somewhere else. Villagers is one thing I don't want to buy, unless its for someone I care about. You have a more emotional meaning to something when you have earned it yourself. It was from your struggle of getting there, your hard work. But if its given to you on a plate would you really appreciate it as much? But it depends on how you emotion feel about it, some plays don't really even care where its from, but that's how they play. For me its like paying someone to unlock your achievements, villagers are a big thing in AC. There's nothing wrong with buying or giving, but I love the feeling of earning something yourself and I know at times I can't earn everything alone. So that's where the kindness of this forum comes in for everyone.

If you want to get villagers from somewhere else. Try the campsite reset or getting them from a friend your close with. It still give an emotional meaning if you know that person. I've gotten villagers from my friend's void and I love them. And this is what game developers think of when you trade, with your friends you know and know where its from. It's like the first and second gen of Pokemon with the cables. Its why you can't re-nickname a Pokemon. It's its history, and if you get a Pokemon from somewhere you don't know. Sometimes its just a Pokemon to you, and a little weird when you don't know the past trader. Like a villager talking about someone it's meet or it's past owner you don't personally know, you don't feel you fully earned it, and its weird.

I'll stop ranting now, otherwise I will be going on for awhile.

I really don't care how I obtained my villagers I love the ones I bought as much as the ones I moved in from my campsite ^.^ I already got most of my dream villagers and I couldn't be happier. I don't think it matters if you buy pixels with other pixels as long as you have fun and play the game in a way that makes you happy is all that really counts <3
