Do Villagers still get sick?

I haven't been interacting with my villagers a lot then I used to, so I never noticed any of my villagers being sick since the update came.

Are villagers still being sick or did the update remove this?

EDIT: Not one sickie in either of my towns since update 15 months ago...and I have not missed more than a couple days of play since then...

they do! if your town doesn't have a lot of weeds/dead things/junk, it is incredibly rare as those are now the factors which make villagers become ill.

Oh, I didn't knew that. I thought the whole time that villagers can't get sick anymore in general since the
update. Good to know!

Deli the Monkey was feeling ill when I went to visit him at his house.
My town has always had the 'Beautiful Town' ordinance.

I don't wish villagers to get sick, but I liked taking care of them when they did. It seems silly to keep selling medicine if they don't, especially with the new ability to shake trees with a net in hand; your chances of getting stung are almost nil.

I currently have 5 non-updated cartridges and, in those towns, my varmints do get sick periodically. In the (many more) towns with the WA update, I've seen zero sickies.

They still can, but it's rare now.
I haven't witnessed it since the update, but I've seen others.

I haven't personally seen it but I've noticed occasionally my villagers have said something along the lines of "did you notice so-and-so was sick yesterday? i hope i don't catch it!".

Yep, they say that, and I go check on the villager they mention, but, NO, they are not even home! Maybe they are trying to start rumors!

I notice none of my villagers present petitions to be signed by out-of-town villagers.

That's how it works now eh? Never noticed, as I always keep my town clean. I must be a very good environmental mayor.

Is it just as rare as encountering a Pokemon with Pokerus in the wild?

I've had both my towns for almost a year now and never seen a sick villager. As far as I know, the update killed the sick mechanism as it'd be impossible to kick out a sick villager to replace it with an amiibo.
I'd love to see proof that villagers can get sick after the update. A picture of a sick villager in their house where a welcome amiibo exclusive item is present would be proof, but I've never seen anyone present it.

Sorry if this is old news and obvious but you will never see a sick varmint outside. Look for smoke and knock/enter...

All my towns are updated and no villagers have been sick.
I had a spare town started in 2013 and made it a real town after the update. Left the town as is with stuff all over the place. There were 100 plus perfect fruit baskets on the beach, items at the train station and a Rafflesia in the town. No villagers got sick.
