Do villagers appearances really matter to you?

I would be lying if I didn't say that villager designs isn't one of the deciding factors. But I don't completely base it on that alone.

I'm not a fan of the "ugly villager" bashing. But I do choose my villagers based on appearance yes. However I like a lot of villagers who are considered ugly so yeah lol.

Species plays an important role for me too.

I mean, considering appearance is the only thing that sets them apart, yes, it does matter.
While I do have my favourites, I'm willing to give most of the villagers a chance. There's only a handful of villagers which I dislike based on their design.
