I just wanted to know if villagers will always ping you before they end up moving away. I see people posting threads saying "____ left without a word!" and it's kind of worrying me.

Do villagers always ping, or do they sometimes just decide to move and not tell anybody about it?

Nope, you need them to ping you to stop them from moving. Nothing else will!

That's kind of really stupid. :c

I wish it was like in WW where you can just convince them to stay even if they were in boxes. It'd be a lot less stressful. It seems like the game is forcing people to get different villagers now. :/

Thanks for the answer!

The ONLY reasons they won't ping you is if they haven't seen you for a week or on that given day there is some kind of event going. For example on the day of the festivale, none of the villagers pinged me for anything they just walked around doing the singing emote all day.

Most of the time when ppl make those threads it's because they were a) careless b) TTing accident) c) they forgot/didn't know that if you take an extended break from the game and you don't TT back the time to the date you played last, you should expect to lose a villager.

Just to be 100% certain without question tho I always like to TT a week ahead and create a new character and see if anyone is missing. I don't ever like leaving it up in the air.

So in summary my answer is I'm pretty sure that they will ping you with a few exceptions but if you want to make absolute certain then TT a week ahead with a new character :)

They also won't ping you if you've recently been pinged by another villager, but all you have to do is wait around for a few minutes and they should ping you after that.

I know but I was answering under the assumption that the question is based around the entire "moving" time of a villager and not just one day.

Yes good point tho glad you mentioned that ^.^

You can also save+quit, then return to the game to see if they'll ping. This worked for me flawlessly.

no not always, if they don't i recommend using the diving trick while having the villager trapped near the beach so he/she is the first person you see. i remember when flora was about to move out, i talked to her without her pinging and she brought it up. you can try to talk to them a few times normally, but it only happened to me like the day before she was moving out.

This is not entirely true. It's possible for a villager not to ping you. A while ago Fuchsia told me that Diana was thinking about moving. I love Diana and talk to her daily so naturally I ran up to her, but she wouldn't ping me even though she was just walking around town doing nothing and there were no events going on. It took me several trials of saving and quitting to get her to ping me. And no, it wasn't because I hadn't talked to her in weeks, she had actually given me her picture just the day before.

Diana was the most frustrating, but it has happened to me several times with several different villagers where they don't ping me until after I've walked by them about a million times.

So yes, they will ping you, but it sometimes takes them a while. So if someone only plays for a short time and doesn't walk by the same villager several times its possible to not be pinged :(

Mine have always pinged for me, even after I had a four week hiatus. I usually try to find a villager instantly after someone tells me that they're thinking about moving so I can stop them.

That's not supposed to happen....must be a glitch or something 0.0

Really? Rodeo did ping me to leave pretty quickly when I came back, probably around the the day or two after I resumed playing.

If you have not talked to your villager for more then a week, then they will not ping you before moving.

Also, if you fail to catch the villager outside, they will not ping you nor will other villagers talk about a rumor that so and so is moving. This happened to me once. Somehow Tia formed the intention to move and for the next 4 days I failed to either see her outside or even when I saw her outside, she did not ping me. Sigh. She was in boxes one day and I was completely taken by surprise.

So, the safe thing to do is, make sure you talk to the ones you are trying to keep regularly. Second, if you havent gotten a ping in a while (villagers will usually ping you every 3 days plus or minus a day), make sure you catch every one you are trying to keep outside, even if it means saving then quitting then playing again.

I had gotten too complacent, and Tia caught be complely by surprise.

Well, when I walked outside in front of Lucky, he did not ping me. When I walked in front of him a second time, he pinged me to tell me he's going to leave.

Also, if you talk to your villagers, they will either mention a rumour (e.g: ___ and ____ are going to buy a car together, those type of rumours) or the rumour of a villager leaving. I talked to Octavian and he mentioned Lucky wanting to leave.

Save and quit if they are in their house or in Main Street, you should get a ping.
Fastest way to get someone to ping would be to become 'good' friends with the villager you want to move, walk in front of them, and see if they ping (imo)

It depends if you've been talking to them regularly or not. So no they don't always ping you but if you talk to other villagers then they'll tell you if someone's thinking of moving ~ then you just keep saving/quitting and then trying to get them to ping you until they do. :)
