Do Second Players Take Up Space?

I want one of my dream villagers to move in but I'm too sympathetic to purposely try to get rid of my villagers. But, I'm unsure if I still have room for another villager to move in because I have nine villagers and one other player. Do players besides the mayor character take up slots/space for new villagers?

no, they don’t - you can have more than 1 player and still get 10 villagers
