It would also be cool if villagers always appeared on mystery islands and they could be invited the same way campsite visitors are, by playing a game and randomly choosing someone to replace. I just think it’d be nice to meet more villagers without having to have an open plot, and it’s always fun when island hopping to see who’s there. I don’t think this would be a huge hassle for the devs and I don’t really see any downside to it.

[Discussion] Potential to allow more villagers on your island

Unless we get more personality types or unless they really branch out the subtypes in each personality I don't have much of a yearning for more villagers. They lose their charm to be personally when there is continuous repetitive dialogue and for some personalities it's more blatant than others.
In theory I would have been really happy with about 12 villagers or so as I'm finding now that I'm building out my layout that I have the room, but I'm okay with now it is right now too. I do hope they consider adding a few more personality types, though. That would bring a much needed injection of variety into the game.
