Digging up trees

This afternoon, I accidentally dug up full-grown trees with the shovel and was able to replant them as full-grown trees. Tonight, when I used the shovel on a tree, it just hit the tree. What was I doing before?

You have to eat a fruit to dig up the tree. It gives "energy".

I would never have thought of that. I ate fruit to meet a Nook Miles goal and wouldn't have thought to do it again. Thanks!
