initially, when we started with 2 villagers i was like oh good... i can just go with the flow, invite villagers and let them go.
easy peasy.
well i was dead wrong.

i've also gotten attached to some of the villagers i invited from the islands, with intention of trading them as they are quite popular (fauna & maple as example). maybe i'll keep them until i get their pics, who knows. fauna definitely became a dreamie of mine now. but i definitely didn't stick to the plan of "cycling villagers", or letting them go when they think of moving. i wanted to do that before i even got the game. then BOOM.... game was released and it felt like people were dreamie hunting! (thanks also the inclusion of mystery islands) and even on social media, people would post their villagers and whatnot. it gives you this lowkey pressure that people are getting their dreamies and acquiring them so quick! i've acquired most of them already as well, to the point where i can't even invite my other dreamies as my island is full/too much personality repeat.

I don't really have dreamies, and I'm too lazy and don't have the free time for island hopping, so I'm just going with the flow for the most part. I've only moved in 1 amiibo villager when one of my starters left and I needed an uchi. I island hopped for like, a whole 5 islands before I got bored and decided to just let random villagers move in. So far the plan is to let them go or force them out after a while with a randomly chosen amiibo villager when I get their picture, even if I like them.

I feel like I would cycle villagers out naturally if the process wasn’t so aggravating.

You have to wait up to a week or two just so a villager asks to move out. However, it might not be a villager you want to leave, so you have to wait even longer. Then you have to hope you find a villager you’re at least mildly interested in. Otherwise, you end up with some random character you might hate, and who knows how many of your NMT you had to spend just for that to happen. 😫

Your only other hope is for the campsite visitors to be something you like, but you also have to wait days or weeks for one to arrive. If that wasn’t enough, you might need to talk to them several times so they bring up the subject of moving in, which, of course, they themselves can decline (for some unknown reason). But that’s not all! After you finally convince them of entertaining the idea of moving, they can delightfully turn that into a game that is 100% rng; this means if you fail the mini game... you have to start goin through all of that dialogue all over again! What fun! 🤪

Anyway, rant over. Lol

I did come into this game thinking I wouldn't, but I did tell myself I would hunt down Skye and Wolfgang. I got Skye, and I'm hoping to get Wolfgang by the end of the month.

I did also come across both Audie and Freya but they were by pure coincidence. The other villagers will be by chance. I'm not going to force myself to the same ten villagers this time around... just four, lol.

I am trying to trade for dreamies I want, It will kinda hurt to see one or two of my villagers I've had for a while to leave (Phoebe and Pom Pom) as they have grown on me but I really like the looks of the ones I want and I will eventually grow attached to them because unlike the gamecube like everyone is nice and cute :3

Judy was my second campsite villager and at first, I moved her in with the intentions of trading/selling her but now she's one of my favorites! I didn't start TTing until very recently (to get rid of a specific villager), but otherwise, I go with the flow.

I played it. Hard. Gave in to time travel just for the heck of it. I spent hundreds of NMTs for island hopping. Constantly searched (and begged) for villager giveaways and adoptions. Risked adoptions on the crazy ACNH Discord server. Did the grueling Campsite method.

But that's only because I didn't have amiibo cards before.

Dreamie hunting satisfies the part of my brain that loves finding deals and discounts irl LOL

I did want to "go with the flow" but with how the void works in this game it seemed like my villagers would never truly be random, theyd just come from one of my friends' islands so I gave up and now Im kinda addicted to dreamie hunting?

i did my very best to take it one day at a time.....but i’ve never been very patient :c

No need to. Now that I know how the campsite works I'll cycle through as many villagers as I can for proper poster unlocks, so I'll likely end up with Genji/Sterling (can't decide) and Raymond at some point, and I have amiibo for all my other dreamies when I'm done.

I like most of the villagers on my island now, but I also look forward to slowly replacing them with villagers I want pretty badly. I'm in no rush though, mystery island hopping is practically impossible and campers are too rare.

Same here, started with just dealing with whoever I get. Then I started island hopping, then I started amiibo hunting...I kind of miss my original villagers who I've since replaced but then again, I do like the current set of villagers I have.

I don't really have dreamies and I'm now going with the flow. I allowed myself one amiibo scan in and I chose Marina because I fell in love with her when those character renders were released/leaked. The sweater just suits her so well! But most of my villagers are random move ins, with the exception of Doc, Megan, and Reneigh. I invited them from the islands. But they weren't dreamies and I basically just picked the first cute villager I met that was the correct personality. I probably didn't go to more than 10 islands to find them all. I like meeting new animals :) it's more fun for me.

I have a few villagers in mind I want to get eventually. However, I don't intend to grind mystery islands or the campsite like crazy. Too much of a hassle.
The way I do it is that I save up NMTs until one of my villagers moves out. Then I go island hopping until I find someone I like to fill the plot. This might take three trips. Or fifty. Nonetheless, the trips will add up over time and I'll run into one of my dreamies eventually. Maybe not now, but someday for sure. And of course, I always keep a keen eye on the campsite. You never know...

I went into this game knowing I want dreamie villagers. Its even more evident since I don't like or aren't attached to 7 out of my 10 villagers. With the campsite and the mystery islands, I thought it'd be easier to get them but BOY was I wrong. I never have any campers and if I do, its someone I don't like and It takes hours to save up enough nook miles for tickets only to use them all in a matter of 10 mins without getting a villager I want. So we're back to browsing to forum lol. Except most are selling villagers for bonkers amount of IGB and NMT now

I've been going with the flow and not forcing anything. I don't have the option of trading/buying since I'm not paying an extra 5 dollars for internet so I always hope to get villagers I like via random move ins, campsite, or rarely nmt. So far I have 4 villagers that I really like. Could've been 5 but Judy prevented Olivia from moving in so there's that.
