I came into New Horizons with no plans with my island, I only came with plans to have fun and experience all the game could provide!

trying to plan out my island and come up with ideas for it is how i kept myself sane while waiting for new horizons to be released, and i’m curious if anyone else did the same!

i couldn’t 100% plan out my island since we didn’t know every item, customization option, terraforming and landscaping option etc that would be in the game, but i decided on what i wanted my island name to be, what i wanted my native fruit to be, a general idea of what i wanted my map layout to look like (specifically where i wanted resident services and the airport to be, since i knew i couldn’t change their locations later), came up with some potential themes and area ideas, and created my dreamies list.

my plans of course changed once i actually had my island, but my island name, desired native fruit, and my dreamies list (for the most part lol) stayed the same :)
I didn't plan it except I planned that I was going to do tropical core

Kind of. Unlike most people who plan a theme, I planned my map. I wanted the river to by symmetrical terraformed in a certain way so I needed a specific starting map to do this. I planned where my residential and plaza area would be. There was a website you could use to plan all this without having the game.

Now I have a 2nd village and I have 0 plans for it because I'm doing a challenge where I can't buy anything from people here, that means I have to gather bells and materials naturally and only buy things available on my island shops so its going to take a long time for me to be able to properly decorate. I don't want to trade with my main island either.

No but I really should have, it's not really too late to do that but I wouldn't know what to use to properly do it.

I get overwhelmed with the terraforming very easily and it's definitely hard to keep to a specific thought process when doing it. I think having a dedicated plan would help but I'm not entirely sure how to go about that. I believe people have used an app or website, or something like that?

I tried to haha. Somewhere I have the plan drawn out which I might show when I find it. It would be interesting to see how much has changed and how much has stayed the same.

I didn't actually, the only thing I did plan was for the name of the Island.
I didn't start playing till a year after it came out, so I did my absoltue best not to find out anything about the game or anything. I remember watching Jacksepticeye play, but I only rewatched the first episode time and time again.

So, I didn't really think of a theme until later on.

No, I don't usually have a set plan for my island. I like to find inspiration first and then decorate each area as ideas come to me.

I did not plan my island before starting. But I did name my first island and the first two characters before ACNH came out.

On my first island, I didn't really plan anything out! Buck isn't even my next door neighbour, I live next to the Museum! I know I could move buildings, but I just couldn't do that as my first island has sentimental attachments. Whereas, my second and third island, I did try to plan out a little. I didn't even know any villagers as NH was my first game, so it was great to randomly meet them.

Yes and no, haha! I preordered months in advance, I wasn't missing out on it. As news started to come out about what features the islands would have etc, I kinda knew what I wanted. Would I change it now? Yes :'D I planned the island name based of names of existing uninhabited islands, and had my late bunny pick the name out of a pot. I knew 3 of the villagers I wanted and got their amiibos as they had been my favourites from my saves in WW, CF and NL. I also knew I didn't want pears as my starter fruit, but other than that, I was reasonably okay about what I got. Now, the 2nd island was a different story, I reset for hours for the map I wanted there, and now that's deleted waiting to be restarted :'D

I would say no. The only thing I planned was having a bush maze, as I knew that bushes no longer had a limit on how many you could place in a row (in NL you could only have so many in a row before any more would not grow/die). Otherwise I didn't have any plans at all for how I wanted to present my island, although I did reset quite a few times to get a map I liked.

Not at all! Maybe I'd thought of the name, if even that.

Nope, I went in blind. I typically don't follow Animal Crossing games before they get released - I don't have a particular reason for this, it's just always been that way. And although I'm someone who likes planning and organizing with RL stuff, with Animal Crossing, I prefer a more natural, untouched look for my towns, so winging it is how I go about things :0

The only things I somewhat planned were my airport color and fruit. I wanted a blue airport and cherries, but I ended up with peaches as my native fruit since I got a blue airport on my first try and peaches were my second choice fruit. It was good enough for me. Aside from that, I didn't plan a theme for my island or how I wanted to decorate it
