I saw a vid come up in my youtube feed showing an animation of a wisdom tooth extraction, and it got me wondering. how many of you here have actually gotten your wisdom teeth (at least one)? and if they came in, did you ever have them removed?

mine are technically (you can see them in x-rays) in there but I'm almost 23 and they never came in. my dad was the same way. my brother got his when he was like 17-18 and he recently had them removed.

Yeah, I got them removed years ago. I was up and walking the same day of surgery (I also was after I broke my wrist too, and even played soccer with others while it was still in a cast). Nothing ever seems to slow me down, lol.

mine were growing in at a slant and pushing against my molars but never actually emerged from my gums I think, but my dentist still recommended that I get them removed since they could make my teeth move and become crowded. I got them removed last year when I was 23 and it actually went really well and was way easier than I expected, especially since I had to have them cut into my gum to removed them.

I got mine, I can't remember how old I was when they started coming in. They stayed in though until I was 25, when I went to boot camp for the Navy and was told I had to get them removed. I wasn't given any option beyond local anesthetic so I was wide awake and alert during the entire procedure, and they did all 4 in one sitting so they had to numb my entire mouth. The procedure wasn't too terrible though, it was painless (aside from one particularly stubborn tooth) and it was over with very quickly once everything was numb and they got started, but I really wasn't a fan of the whole experience. I can't say trying to eat at the next meal with a nearly completely numb mouth was all that fun either!

I currently still have mine but I imagine they'll get removed eventually because my teeth are in awful condition due to me not being able to see the dentist at the moment.

that was my dad's scenario, his never really came in but when he went into boot camp he had no choice but to have them removed.

Unfortunately, all four came in years ago. One of them came in at an awkward angle and caused an infection in the molar next to it, necessitating a root canal and crown on the molar and the extraction of the wisdom tooth. Still have the other three, but figure I'll probably want to get them out eventually too, if for no other reason than because they're annoying to floss.

i have them but i don't think they're growing in? like i can feel them under the surface of my gums but i'm 22 and they havent grown in, however i know some peoples grow in way later than others. im not super worried about it right now since i need to have other teeth removed eventually due to crowding....

I got my last one removed in November, it didn't go that well, unlike the 3 others, they had to cut it and tiny parts of it got stuck in my gum and caused swelling. It took more than a month to heal and I couldn't take the meds they gave me because of the side effects. It hurt a bit but my wallet suffered the most.
Also, in my place they just use local anesthesia. I personally don't know anybody who had general anesthesia, gas or any sedative. I'm not sure it even exists in my area. I often see videos on the internet of people confused and saying silly things after a wisdom teeth extraction but really, I don't know what they did to them. As for me, I just looked like a moody squirrel.

A couple of mine were poking through my gums a bit but they never fully grew in. I ended up getting all four removed before they had a chance to. Luckily I had no pain at all from them or the procedure.

My top ones came in straight, but my bottom ones are impacted/at an angle. They're not causing any problems for now, but I'll probably have them removed once the pandemic situation is straightened out, just to be on the safe side. I might just keep the top ones if that won't cause any trouble.

All four of my wisdom teeth started growing in when I was teenager. I can't recall the exact age. They came in fine, although it took years for them to grow in fully. I kept them for a long time because the only issue they caused some minor crowding. But then I got cavities in both of my top wisdom teeth at different times, probably because it was too tight to brush them properly, so those two had to be removed. I still have both of my lower wisdom teeth and I don't have any plans to remove them unless they also get cavities. So I'm somewhere between the first two answers on the poll. I've had half of my wisdom teeth removed.

When I had the first one removed, they were able to do it with just local anesthesia, but for my second one I was having a rough time. I couldn't even keep the x-ray piece in my mouth without feeling like I was choking on it, so they put me under general anesthesia to make all of our lives easier. I don't remember much from when I woke up, but my husband said I was really out of it.

My bottom wisdom teeth grew at a slant and scraped the tendons at the back of my jaw and my top ones were both impacted, so I had all 4 removed together.

I had 1 that got dry socket, which was not fun, but quickly taken care of, and everything healed well.

Yeah, I got mine removed about a year ago now because they were causing my mouth to hurt when they were starting to grow in and my dentist recommended me to, so I got them removed before they even started poking out. The procedure went well and I just had swelling for a few days but after that I was fine.

Yes, I got them all removed close to 6 years ago. I ended up having them removed in two stages, as my top two wisdom teeth were straight but my bottom two wisdom teeth were basically sideways and required a specialist to remove them. I got my top two wisdom teeth removed first, zero problems having them removed, I basically felt normal a couple of hours after they were removed. Then 3 months later, I got my bottom two wisdom teeth removed, along with two premolars at the top of my mouth. Recovering from that sucked, mainly because of the stitches where the premolars were, though after a week things got better once the stitches dissolved. Both were done under general anesthesia, which I'm very thankful for as there's no way I could have done it with just local anesthesia, lol.

Mine were all impacted (all four never broke the surface, they were pointing sideways in the X-rays) After I got my braces off when I was 17 I had all 4 removed by a dental surgeon with general anesthesia, woke up with my face very swollen, apparently I did or said something funny when I was being moved from surgery to the recovery room (I have no memory of it) because my mom said I had the surgeon and his assistants laughing a lot lol
