I only ask because the last 2 times I saw one, it rushed me as soon as I pulled out my net...no hissing or anything.

Prior to these recent two, I hadn't attempted to catch one since my last trip to 'Scorpion Island' months ago...where they usually turn, stand their ground, and hiss at you.

Just wasn't sure if one of the updates made them a little trickier to catch.

I had that happen to me before at times when the game was new

idk what causes it, but I don't think any update did. seems safer to just pull out the net away from them

Were you running before you pulled the net out? If you were recently running and pull out the net immediately after, it'll take it as a threat and charge even if you never ran with the actual net. You should always pause a bit after running- especially if the scorpion (or tarantula) has seen you and is running around panicked.

I don't believe this has changed at any point, but I could be wrong!

I may have been running the first time, I can't be sure, I just remember thinking it was weird. Then just tonight, I was talking to Celeste and I saw the scorpion run past her, so as soon as the conversation was over I pulled out my net and the scorpion just immediately took me down lol

scorpions seem to have a weird los and if when they first see you they tend to charge, but if when they spot you and you stop immediately they do the hiss thing and you can catch them. otherwise no choice but run, dont know if they fixed it, but if you run over the wooden bridge the scorpion gets stuck a third of the way and you can just casually walk up and catch it. it has no problems running over the stone bridge though

I haven't seen one for almost two months.

They've become as rare as furniture.
how complete is your island now? for a time I no longer saw scorpions, then I finally cleaned up my flowers and stuff and they showed up again. now I have most of my island done and I maybe see a scorpion once a week

I didn't notice. In fact, do they still exist? It's been a while since I last saw one.

Maybe their spawn rate changed again.

I haven't noticed a change with them...

Then again, I'm southern hemisphere, so it's the wrong time of year for them to spawn xD
But I caught a tarantula not too long ago to donate to Blathers and I feel like it's a similar catching method to scorpions. I didn't have any issues with it. You just have to remember not to run at them.

I have a "hybrid" island so I only go get scorpions/t-tulas when I go island hopping. I cut down every tree and dig out the stumps, crush every rock and pick every flower and drop the bunches. The only other bugs (right now) left are the g. water beetle, hermit crab, mosquito, t. beetle and earth b. beetle. Scorpions are tricky and like what others have said, make sure they hiss, stop and then you approach slowly. If you get stung island hopping, you'll warp back to Wilbur but youll still be able to have a good encounter rate.

Scorpions recently often run away from me before I could get an open view to pull out the net :( I don’t think I am that scary ...

I trampled one once and it disappeared. I was running around without my net and didn’t see it until after I ran over it.

It's as complete as a game with very limited furniture can be.

It has nothing to do with flowers, it's the crickets that are stopping any scorpions from spawning.

If I find them on my own island, they usually runaway from me .-. but I haven't seen one in so long (scorpion or tarantula) that I kinda forgot they were part of the game. Because I haven't seen one in ages, I don't really know if they change their mechanics, which I don't think they would, if anything, I think they would only mess with their spawn rates.

As far as my knowledge goes, scorpions and tarantulas act the same way. If you're running or walking with a net with one close enough in their range, they will attack you. And pulling out a net once you're close enough isn't a good idea either because they do have a range of what is too close to them, so if you just randomly whip it out when you're in that range they'll automatically attack you. The only way they won't attack you with a net is when you're sneaking up to them holding A. They'll act aggressive when you approach (rattling or making a warning sound to signal not to come closer) which is when you should stop sneaking, and as soon as they stop, you sneak forward a bit more. Cycle and repeat until you're close enough to release A.

oddly enough, I found one yesterday that began running away from me rather than chase me 0:

2 islands and I have scorpion glitches on both. Scorpions have dropped from a villagers house when I walked pass, loading screen it fell off a statue in front of a museum and scorpions taking forever to disappear. One visit to an island a scorpion moved around for a long time and than went part way into a cliff. I was able to record it 4 times and it lasted about 5 minutes before it disappeared. On both islands the scorpions walk around longer before they disappear. The last time I caught one I had no problems.
