....that they can move to your island without you asking them? Because Chadder from my friend's island came in yesterday and she said she kicked him out ages ago, like a few weeks. That is crazy! I didn't know that could happen! I did meet him when I went to her island, but like once I think. She didn't know we could get each other's "cast-offs" either! lol

This is what happens when they enter the void. They can move to the island of anyone that has visited their previous island. I once got Candi from someone who's island I visited for a trade - literally no longer than 2 minutes, talked to no one, and only stepped their island to drop the item.

Then bam - Candi arrived.

I heard if you want to prevent this, and have a complete random RNG move in, you have to play with your internet turned off until the game selects someone to move in naturally.

yup, unfortunately it happens a lot. I moved Gonzo out within a month of the game's release and my friend texted me that he showed up on her island last week. I kind of feel bad haha

Yes, and as others have stated, it doesn't necessarily even have to be someone you're friends with, it can be someone who even just visited your island.

This happened to me a few weeks ago when I traded with someone, the same time I had an empty plot. Few days later, I spoke with the new villager who moved in and said they were from the same island of the player I traded with. I wasn't bothered by it, I was just surprised really :)

Yes this is why I try to rehome villagers who are leaving, even if it's just giving them away, so they don't enter the void and show up on someone's island who doesn't want them.

yeah, thats the downfall of the void - if you visit an island or have someone visit you who recently had a villager move out and you have an empty plot, you’re very likely to get that voided villager ;

Yup. It happened to me back when I was playing New Leaf. Someone had Bob in boxes and he ended up in my town the next day. I didn't even ask for him, but I kept him around.

it’s unfortunate that there seems to be no way to clear the void this game :c i trade quite often, so i always feel the need to rush and fill up empty plots very quickly ;w;

Assuming that I have visited other people's islands...

Is it guaranteed that one of their voided villager will claim an open plot on my island?

Also, is using NMTs to island hop the only way to keep this from happening?

I'm thinking of opening up a plot (I have 7 filled) instead of waiting for a camper, but I want to make sure I understand what could happen.

Sorry if these are basic questions; I'm new to AC and I'm still catching up on how things work.

Yes, if you have visited anyone who has got rid of a villager (or I believe if they have visited you), those villagers are stored in a queue for you and given priority as soon as you have an empty space. If you do not invite a villager you find on an island during the day that you have an empty slot, one of those villagers in the queue will be moved in, usually the following day.

I wish I'd known this! The one day I had an open slot, I NMT'd to 8 islands! Didn't find anyone I wanted. Eh.

This is how I got Tom (NL, via Streetpass) and Axel (trade here) and Chaddar (my roommate's girlfriend). So far I haven't heard of anyone reporting any of my villagers showing up but it's probably just a matter of time.

Just to ask, they won’t fill it up right away right? The plot will stay empty for a day then the next day will be filled by a rng or a voided villager if you don’t invite one back yourself? Got a plot opening up tomorrow and really wanted to take the day to island hop but I don’t want someone random moving in if I don’t find anyone :0

Yeah, just make sure you find someone tomorrow! I thought I'd have at least an extra day!

It can happen and the only way to prevent it is by going Island hopping and finding someone you're at least okay to have as a resident temporarily.

I've accidentally given three villagers to my best friend like this... we didn't catch on until she was fed up with her town and realized her new neighbors were mentioning me :ROFLMAO:

my friend asked me if a dog named mac had lived on my island because he started talking about his time in hell and i was like UHHHHHH I'M SORRY 😭
