Designs that sacrifice practicality for beauty, thoughts?

I prefer practicality. I prefer people being able to get around rather than squeezing through areas. I also like two tiles for sidewalks rather than one. Three looks nice, but I feel like it takes up too much.

Personality I want my island to accessible so it’s easy for my to run around. I have also seen some islands were the villagers are trapped in one area and I don’t want to do that to mine because I like to see them wander around.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, isn't it? But I don't want to just look at my game, I want to be able to play it. So it's about finding a balance.

when it comes to my island, I need functionality bc I still play on it everyday. I have some rigid paths made from hedges and even there I have spots purposely left free in the hedges so I can slip behind the hedges if I ever need it. Otherwise, doing a 360 around the hedges at the end made me incredibly frustrated.

Also, I want all my decorations to be accessible. So if I have benches and tables, you gotta be able to sit at the table and all spots to move around for me to give it a green light to stay.

But when it comes to visiting, I love cluttered islands. they are my fav to visit

I try to keep my areas as accessible as possible. One area of my island has a winding path around a fountain that's surrounded by a lot of bushes, flowers, butterfly models and a tree. I have a more narrow path in parts of it, but I tried to keep it open by making it so I can still walk around everything and get to my river. At first, there was bushes or butterfly models blocking the places I could walk. I changed up some placement because I like being able to access the river if I want to.
So for me, I could have a more crowded area, but I still like it to be accessible.

One time, I went to someones island. It was beautiful, I loved the way it looked so much. But I could barely move around. It was so hard to get to where I wanted to be.
I would say, make it accessible before you decorate.

Personally I don't like towns that block villager houses- I've seen a few recently that surround villager houses with water and then use stepping stones to get to the villager's door. I don't like this because the villager cannot use stepping stones the way human characters can, and I feel bad for the villagers because they are essentially trapped. :(

I also like to make all my outdoor items accessible for my villagers to interact with, and try not to include spaces you can only get to by sliding between 0.5 spaces.

I just want to make sure my villagers can also enjoy my island!!
