Designs Help ACNL!

I really want to start laying down paths in my town but when I replace a design with the path needed, it replaces the original design to the path as well, even if I saved it. For example, I have a floral design for my wallpaper in my house, but when I replace it with a path design, my wallpaper is also the path design! I save any important designs along with clothing designs. Is this just how it works in the game or is there a way to fix this problem? Thank you!

I'm afraid the only way to fix this is to have a second character

That's just how it works. As someone already mentioned, you'll have to have another character in order to store more designs.

thank you this helped! if i were to make a 2nd character to use for the paths, and then delete that character would the paths stay in my town?

Nope, unfortunately not. All the patterns would disappear, as opposed to turning white which you might think.

You could have your second character keep all the paths while your main keeps wallpapers and such.
