Ah you must not have seen my response earlier. I had the same issue that Angelica had with Fauna. When I tt'd back to keep him in boxes overnight (because I was attempting to save him until you got back on) he disappeared from my town. So I am hoping I get him again soon. I felt really bad. And that's when I decided I would go ahead and reset my town.
