While I'm close to (or at least I think I am) being done with designing the inside of my house, I thought it'd be kind of fun to try decorating the villagers' houses as best as I can. Now, the question is if I should go by what thonky's guide says my villagers' favorite style/color is, or give them whatever I feel like.

Not counting my unwanted villager "guest," my villagers are: Puddles, Erik, Harry, Punchy, Gaston, Ankha, Kiki, Marshal and Rosie. I already kind of had some sort of idea what I wanted to give Puddles, Marshal, and Rosie. Puddles ~ leaf bed, tree stump chair, some movie furniture; Marshal ~ just give him some more sloppy furniture; Rosie ~ some sweets furniture (not the whole set) and maybe some lovely furniture too. But, when I looked at Thonky's guide for Marshal, Sloppy furniture didn't fall under anything that was listed there.

What does everyone think?

I don't think it's worth the time or effort. I used to do it but it got exhausting doing it for every villager.
Yeah. Its like real life. People want to replace their old furniture for other kinds, and the villagers do the same thing. But very quickly.

I love customizing villager houses! I think it's totally worth it because if you fill up Retail they won't get rid of what you've given them. I completely redid Rolf and Dizzy's houses and they're exactly the same now as a couple months ago when I did it because I filled up all the Retail spots.

I do look at the Thonky guide when sending them stuff, but ultimately I just send them whatever I like best or what I think suits them. I always make sure that I don't send them something of their disliked style though.

Have fun! Customizing bedding and couches for them is also one of my favourite things. I gave someone a bed with the watermelon shirt as bedding and I think it looks adorable.

For the longest time, ever since I played the first Animal Crossing, I paid little attention to what the villagers' houses looked like; though it did bother me how easy it was to get their furniture. In the first AC, I could just send them seashells and get their furniture. :P It has been bothering me more lately, how their houses look after I give them (I stopped giving them fish and insects) fish or insects, or just random pieces of furniture. So, that's part of the reason why I've been considering customizing their houses. ^.^

i think i'm going to do this. i hate how they mess up their cutely styled houses with bugs and fossils.
good tip about filling up re-tail! i'll try that too.

I realized my favorite villager, Chief has the robo set in his house which i think is very weird.. so im trying to give him the cabin series...

i love to give my villagers furniture that i think suits them :D

I feel like you should give villagers items that suit them but don't be optimistic and don't try to plan their house. I've learnt that villagers do what they want in regards to decorating which could be horrible in your eyes.
Overall I'd say it's too much effort to try but you can do it casually and hope it works out!

I think that it can be fun to give them things, and see that they have put them in their rooms. I tend to send them random gifts every now and then, without thinking too much about what it is. I sort of like it when things happen organically in the game, so I don't push too much.

I did this with Agent S when I still planned to keep her. Her house was just so gray and boring and everything. I think I must've sent her so many wallpapers because she just kept refusing to change it. By the time she moved, her house wasn't that much better, but it definitely had more color than before.

I do like seeing the changes though. I got Lucha to change his home theme to Stale Cupcakes and I'm working on giving him a nicer home, rather than a boxing ring. I also tend to send Rosie all of my cute blue and pink stuff. I think I may need to start sending Lobo some pink stuff too...

I try to give them things that match, as well as getting my villagers beds because half of them don't seem to need them anymore.

You can also keep Re-Tail filled with stuff you want various villagers to buy. I've successfully customised villagers' homes purely through getting them to buy stuff and always have a little stash on hand to keep re-filling Re-Tail.

I really want to customize some sloppy furniture and give them to Marshal, but I think Sloppy would fall under the items he dislikes (even though he has almost the whole series in his room lol); I know he's not the sloppy kind of villager but I think it'd be funny to have something that's the polar opposite of him and his interests with some of the types of clothing that is of his favorite color and style used to customize the furniture (for ex: the princess dress :P).

Aw. The dresses I tried to use on the Sloppy furniture; you can't tell what they are ~ for example: you can't tell the maid dress is the maid dress <.<. :/ disappointing.
