Customizing villager houses?

So will a villager put up anything we give them now in their house? Because Rolf is pretty much camping inside of his own house and I wanna give him a bunch of better furniture (while still sticking to a simple style cause that seems to be what he likes) and idk if he'll put it all up or not.

I think he will because Frobert's put up both the items I gave him. Maybe I should give him them one a day? Idk I just wanna make sure he puts them up. I wanna spoil Rolf he's so sweet and keeps giving me items from my wishlist. x3

I have a general suspicion that if they dont put an item in their house, they'll recycle it. I gave Whitney a white rose rug, praying she would place it, and thats where it ended up. Not sure about furniture, never tested it, but I've generally seen villagers place any furniture I gave them, at least temporarily.
