I use both... I'd vote in the poll but that's not an option, and I can't choose 😂

My MAIN paths are the in-game original paths. The kind I use depends on the area. But I also use THE custom path a lot since finding it... I don't like to just jump on trends but, boy, this path is popular for a reason. I also use custom paths on the beach because they won't let us use regular paths on the beach (which is beyond stupid, but whatever). I found a path for the beach that looks like an extension of the pier and it's great for the beach.

I'm currently going for an urban themed island so I downloaded a bunch of street paths and boy do they take up a lot of custom design slots. If you have lots of slots to spare then I would say go for custom designed paths otherwise you could do a mix of both or find a path that would only take up 2 or 3 slots.

I prefer original paths since you can't erase them by accident and they have different sounds when you run on them. Custom paths are weirdly silent. They also take up a lot of custom design slots, and I rather use them for other things.

I primarily use default paths, because I love the sound my character's feet make running on them! Also, I just don't have enough slots to spare to have a whole big custom path set. I did try, in teh beginning, but I couldn't get over the silent footsteps and how few pattern spaces it left me.

That said, I do have a couple "mini paths." One of them is a single tile-wide stepping stone path for my bamboo forest and around Blanche's house. The other is a white boardwalk - I have it in both single and double-tile width. I use it for Marina's house, my marine creature research lab, and my flamingo sanctuary.

I have mostly been using original paths with some stepping stone custom paths to add pzazz. And then "the path" came out and i've had to resist trying it out because i don't want to re-tile my whole island and because it takes up so much space in the patterns and i don't want to have to get rid of any of the designs i already use. :/

I suspect you mean the regular paths you get in the game and not someone else's custom paths. If that's the case, use both. It makes your island have some more originality. Or you can find custom patterns online, but I've seen the same kinds used so much that I personally wouldn't use them.

I use original paths with custom borders, they're so pretty. 🥰

I tried making some custom borders for my island, but I don't know how people do it.

Both! I love custom paths because they enable me to more easily design spaces that are not strictly vertical or horizontal, but the vanilla paths are useful for more urban or planned looking spaces. So yeah, I use both.

Here are the forms you need to make in theory, the transparency needed is a little bit off.

Thanks. I've been doing it wrong the whole time. I've put the borders right against the edges.

the only time i use custom pathing is when i want to decorate with little pebbles or stones, like on the beach. its harder to do that without custom designs. but for main paths i always always always use the og paths, theres not really many custom paths i think look good as main paths except for The Path™

i just love having the more organic looking border with the grass and the satisfying clicky sounds!! if we could like, link sounds to custom paths when you walk on them (like choose if it makes a dirt path sound, stone sound, terracotta sound) then i think i would be way more likely to use the customs. something about not having sounds on paths just feels so unnatural in a game with such great sound design!!

I used to be more for original paths because of the sounds when you're wearing shoes and their overall cleaner quality, but then I saw "the path" and realised that on my island I run around barefoot anyway

i originally used original paths but i switched to custom and haven’t looked back since. while i don’t like the lack of noise when you walk on custom paths, i’m not very fond of the nook mile paths and had a better time finding a custom path that i actually liked the look of aha - i just wish they made noise >_<

I use one tile dirt path in my foresty areas and brick path for everything else. To make the original path look a little nicer, I slapped a few custom leave patterns on it and I love the way it looks tbh! Saves you more custom design slots for other ideas.

Custom. I just find the original bland and boring, not to mention custom paths are more manipulative, the OG curves and corners are ugly!
