If you were the student, what would you have done in this situation? Push back? I may have, but I don't know how that would end. The government would probably say you assaulted him because surely our noble politicians would never hurt anyone! I kind of wish that kid did more though...

edit: By the way, he says he has a "right to know who you are" which is false.

Well I don't get why he didn't say his name. Then maybe he would have stopped.
And I would just backed up and walked away.

Privacy probably. Doesn't matter though, he doesn't have to give him his name. I don't think I would have either.

edit: How do you back up and walk away if he is holding on to you? :O

That guy is a certified douche. However, if you had pushed back I seriously doubt you would've been charged with assault, no matter what government persecution fantasy you may dream up.

I guess.. He could have just made something up and be like "I'm Sam Edwards." and he'd be like "Oh, okay then." lol probably not, but who knows..

And swing your arms like a crazy person until he lets go.

I don't mean just push because the guy was literally holding on to the kid pretty good. He'd probably have to physically injure the congressman. Luckily it was recorded. Otherwise the congressman and his lawyers could easily win in court.

You can only speculate on how the encounter would've turned out if the student had acted otherwise, but considering it was on video I'm certain he would've been safe from any lawsuit. Also, no politician wants their name in the news for filing a suit against a student. If anything, the student has grounds for an assault case based on the video.

I know, the video changes everything. But if there was no video and the congressman was hurt... I don't think it would end too pretty for the student.

Wow, a grade "A" moron. I wonder how many more of these morons are in the office. That's just ridiculous. The student SHOULD take legal action.

He also sounded like a broken record. "Who are you?" "Who are you?"

<div class='spoiler_toggle'>Spoiler: click to toggle</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">Maybe he's an alien and that was the only thing he could say. I mean the way he held him next to himself seemed kind of like "I'm pretending to be a politician and they hug people."</div>

*Like*

Did this guy have a bad day. I expected more from a Congressman who should be letting the public know their opinions. The two seemed like no threat. He may have thought the filming was a joke which is still unlikely. Is there legit proof of these kids being college students. You never know, this guy could be getting stopped by phonies every day.

I probably would've done the same thing that dude did.. I'd be like "Uhh, just a student." or whatever he said heh.

I'd actually be scared.

Uhh, really? This was the straw that broke the camel's back? A congressman acted badly towards an innocent student? It's stupid, yes, but it does not follow that this man's actions can be generalized to any aspect of American society. At best you could say that you wouldn't want to defend the people of whatever North Carolina district he represents for electing him.

If you want to be ashamed of America, look at the corporate ownership of the electoral process, at the strident theocrats that dominate the public and the media's attention, or to our nascent society of entitlement and unapologetic ignorance. Look to a foreign policy that has given us sanction to overthrow elected governments in our favor, and to choose allies simply on the basis of what advantage the relationship can give us. Things such as when we criminalize harmless things like the use of marijuana or when we pour money into Israel's military and become complicit with the unapologetically racist oppression of the Palestinians by the disgusting ******** in the Knesset, those are reasons to be ashamed.

I swear to god, you stole my brain in the middle of the night.

It's sad that such a large chunk of our politicians are like this guy.

This is what I heard

"Hi. How's it going?"
"Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you?"
"Students"
"From Where? TELL ME WHO YOU ARE!!!"
"We're just students, sir. Nothing more."
(Woman walks by. Probably with a weird look on her face.)
"Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you? Who are you?"

Interesting.

Kudos on the statement.
