I'm doing a town based off Pripyat and the Chernobyl incident in Ukraine. I'd love to request a Ukrainian flag, but I'm not sure which one is relevant to Pripyat's time. If that makes sense. There's so many flag variations. :/

I never bothered to read the history of that event. But it did happen in 1986, did it not? Forgive my ignorance, but was the flag different than it is now?

I don't think it's the same. I got thrown off because in the recent pictures of Pripyat, the Soviet flag was displayed instead of the standard Ukraine flag. But then again, I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to flags myself. I've been researching it and even asked a Ukrainian friend about it who asked her grandparents in turn. The "modern" flag was adopted in 1992; I think 1986 was the Ukrainian SSR flag.(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a6/Flag_of_Ukrainian_SSR.svg) I feel like I'm making this such a mess, I'm sorry! I probably should have gotten all this down before asking. :/

So I was looking at the correct one. At least I'd like to think I was. Don't worry about making a mess. Better to get things right the first time around. I've already made a mistake twice with two other flags when it comes to names.

The Republic of Molossia is a somewhat joke micronation founded by one family in the middle of Nevada, who claim succession from the U.S. through a minor loophole. I'm not really sure if Molossia qualifies as an 'existing country' in the way you've meant it, but I thought I might as well give it a shot in asking, since my town is named after them.

If not, can you do The Philippines?
