Corrupted Save, starting over ;-;

So the other week I loaded up my old town and... nothing. Isabelle popped up as normal but the game just loaded forever, and even though I left it for about 3 hours hoping it would just sort of fix itself, I had no choice but to turn it off and hope for the best. When I loaded it up again, my save file had been wiped. All my bells, my dream villagers, my 7/11 set, all my patterns, my ENTIRE TOWN - gone.

I have started again now, but does ANYONE know what causes these horrible errors? I hadn't touched my game in months and I know that it saved properly and turned off properly before then. I have a DL copy of the game, by the way, and there is nothing wrong with my SD card or any of my other games. It was only animal crossing that got messed up. While I am heartbroken that I have to start all over again, it would be great to know what causes save corruptions and how to prevent it happening again.

For the record, the only thing I can think of is that I am very forgetful and my 3DS has run out of battery while the game was in sleep mode once or twice.

Not sure as to what causes the corruptions, but I do know they are more common with SD Cards, sadly. I've never had a game corrupt in such a way before, luckily...

If you'd like, I can use my cycling town to help you regain dreamies, and I can donate some furniture/bells? As for patterns, there's nothing I can do there, but I wish you luck in retrieving them/remaking them!

I figured it was turning if off while loading, but it had been loading for so very long ;-; bah, I'll just have to be more careful in the future I suppose.

I don't think you really have to worry. I quit without saving all the time, and I play on an SD Card, and I've yet to have any difficulties. It's a very, very small chance, and if you're careful, it probably won't happen to you.

Bat, I insist! My cycling town is for giving out dreamies anyways, and I have no use for the money!

And yes, this seems to have been a freak accident, I had never had ANY trouble before this incident so you've no need to fear

When you said that it didn't load for 3 hours, I think that was the problem. I've never heard of it :/
Anyways, if you'd like, I can give you some Bells and items to get you back on your feet <3

I remember my game taking ages to load one day. It wasn't anywhere near 3 hours, probably more like 10 minutes but now I'm so glad I didn't turn it off before it finished.

I feel so bad for you I know you said you feel bad having things given to you but are there any items that you want to catalogue. Maybe post them here and I'm sure people will help you out!

I had a heart attack when I had a corruption scare, but then I remembered I needed to put the sd card back in, haha.

Sorry this happened to you, now im going to be worried every time my game loads pff
