Corrupt Save File

I'm not saying that they should do something because it's a common occurrence. I think we can all agree that it's not common. But the magnitude of the problem is great so that with only a few isolated instances, all of us are worried. Now I just want to know why we cannot back up our data. Everything you do digitally nowadays is backed up: from your everyday pictures to corporate and state secrets. So why not our towns?

That's exactly the problem. This game's well thought out but missed out on a really basic feature: no save backups. I proposed a cloud storing method. Someone write a letter to Big N to come up with a save data backup database.

First thing's first, it's not Nintendos' problem.
They made a game, they tested the game, the game works without any major game breaking bugs.
Game doesn't even really have any minor bugs.
Ship game, sell game, profit.

If it was a widespread problem that was caused either by a fault with the cartridge or an in-game fault, THEN it would be Nintendos' problem and they would sort it. Much like the Pokemon X/Y problem about saving in Lumoise City corrupting the game. That problem was patched fairly quickly after discovery.
In almost all AC cases it was a user created fault, most likely even in the cases that claim they didn't do anything wrong.

Maybe it would be a good idea to allow cloud backups, but even save data for other consoles is corruptible quite easily if you're careless.
But let's face it, Nintendo can't even run their eShop very well, the first thing they need to do is tie eShop purchases to an account and not a console so you can redownload them if something happens to the console you bought them on.
I wouldn't expect a cloud service anytime soon.

All in all, nothing is broken and they don't need to compensate you for anything, they don't owe you anything either.
You're just calling for another service when they're already well behind the times in regards to online stuff as it is.

It would be better if you could backup saves from your cartridge to your SD card. I imagine that would also be much simpler to implement than starting up a cloud service that they would have to continually pay for.

Interrupting a save is pretty obviously bad in general. It is writing into a file same as you would on a computer and interfering with that is the most common source of data corruptions. I am disturbed by reports of putting your town to sleep normally one night, waking up the next and it is gone.
I dont want my town to go cahpoohey when i do it normal that would be scary
