Have any of you ever experienced having corrupt data? I heard its common and can happen at random, and I read you have a greater risk of getting corrupt data if you plot reset, and i plot reset sometimes, but i'm really worried! i played for over 110 hours.

I don't think it's that common. Some users just fake it to get sympathy/pity items after they reset their town or so I've been told.

Honestly. My Wild World copy lasted a whole seven years. It would've lasted longer but someone bricked me. I doubt New Leaf is less durable.

No, corrupt data is not common and I?ve never had it happen and plot resetting doesn`t cause the game to corrupt.

Just one question. Why are data corruptions more common in ACNL than in previous games? Is this the new Red Ring of Death?

I had a download game on a memory card that had issues, so I've seen it.

The increase in corruption is likely due to the increasingly complex code Nintendo wrote to make the game, as this is one of the 3DS games which are the hardest to hack. And because this iteration, we're downloading the game onto memory cards. Those seem slightly less stable than cartridges to me, especially since I've already had one go on the fritz yet never seen a cartridge since GBA do that. But I'm just guessing, I wouldn't actually know why.

People who claim it to be common are those who just see threads about issues with saves and towns.
Same for people who claim it common to have consoles on day one with issues.
The voice of the minority does not speak for the masses.

It SEEMS more common because you don't exactly see loads of threads going "oh hey man my game / console plays just fine, no issues"

But I've had corruption multiple times due to a faulty sd card and the digital version.

Its not common.

I have the downloaded version and I have played 2500+ hours and plot resetting. I've never had a single problem.
Unless you do something pretty stupid.

Something stupid: Mess with SD card without knowing what you're doing.

Its not common. I've tried and tried to corrupt my data, and so far, no corruptions.

The digital copies are the ones that have a higher chance of corrupting (even for no reason), but that chance is still very slim. As far as I am aware, modifying the SD card while having a digital copy can result in a corruption. Powering off the game would probably corrupt it as well (applied to digital and physical). And as for the physical, popping out the game cartridge while in the middle of gameplay can also result in corruption.

I have 2 physical copies and played for over 1200 hours and plot resetted for ~20 hours altogether and have never experienced any corrupt data.

I agree with that. I don't know anything about the SD card and I don't touch anything if I don't know how it works! I paid a lot of my 3DS XL and game, so I won't risk inflicting damage to them.

I always wonder how many of these threads are true. :(

I remember I played WW and never got corrupted data in YEARS. The only reason I lost my town was someone seeded me way too much and my game crashed on town load. However seeds are not a risk in NL.

People with corrupted saves will post about it whereas people without corrupted saves won't. So thus the situation will seem more exaggerated than it actually is. In all likelihood it probably is a low chance, but it does happen. Just make sure you wait for the save to complete, if in doubt wait a few seconds after to make sure. Don't take the game card out while playing, just generally simple things like that are good prevention techniques.

I think I've also read about some people "corrupting" by hitting the home button while saving. That right there is an obvious fake thread because it is literally impossible to do so since it even blocks you from doing it by showing the home button as "striked out"

I've never had, or heard of anyone I know having corrupt acnl data. I think it's a bunch of bull honestly.
