Wow, the fact that some people are nitpicky about others' interior decorating at this point in the game makes me kinda self-conscious about mine! :P It's only been a month for a lot of us! And for part of this month, the main way to buy furniture was through the smaller Nooklings' expansions! I don't have any of the rooms mentioned, but I do have some boring series rooms in my 4 character houses. Like I dumped a balloon and mermaid room in one of my mules' houses, but obviously I don't plan on keeping it that way forever... I look forward to decorating them more to my liking in the future :)

Yeah, this post is exactly what I came in here to say!

Some of my friends use furniture sets (mermaid included) that I definitely wouldn't use in my house, but that's the beauty of this game I think. Different people like different things, whether it's the furniture they collect, the villagers they want, the way they decorate their town, the clothes they put on their mayor, and whatnot.

It's okay if you don't like a particular furniture set, or if you get tired of seeing it. But I think everyone should probably be careful about calling things boring, or cookie-cutter, or uncreative, etc. That's pretty rude.

Just because it's not to your taste doesn't mean it's bad. :P Let people decorate however they want. They spent the same amount of money on the game that you did, and I think it's a little early to start getting elitist about how other people decorate!

Honestly I don't really care what others think of my rooms, as long as I enjoy them that's how they'll be. I do have a Japanese Room, a Nintendo room, and Mermaid Series room. I like those furniture types so I have them in my House, yes it is a tad ridiculous to have a Nintendo room but I had the Mario theme room in City Folk and I really liked it so I'm going for that in New Leaf. I'd love to have a Japanese room in real life, so I duplicate that to Animal Crossing where I can make it possible. I'd love to have a Korean themed room, though there really isn't much of anything to use for that.

I don't get how other people's houses, which have nothing to do with your own personal style, bother some of you. I'm just happy if I can order something I haven't found in my town yet.

This is Animal Crossing, not HGTV, lol.

That is true. A lot of people that I know irl that play aren't active online members, so they don't have access to the trade community we have. Not to mention the fact that it is super easy to make bells, and a lot of people are expanding faster than they have furniture to fill it with, so they fill it with whats easily available. I made myself feel like a jerk now. XD

There isn't anything creative or uncreative when it comes to customizing in this game. If something appeals to the player then they'll use it. In a situation like this as easily as you say they're uncreative somebody else can just as easily look at your setup and call it uncreative as well.

It's personal preference. You see certain things a lot because certain things are appealing to a lot of people. Creativity or originality has nothing to do with anything.

I'm planning to have a normal-ish house with a kitchen, bathroom and study/music room in the three extra rooms and a game room in the basement. No Nintendo/gyroid/Japanese themed rooms for me.

I'm aiming for the golden mailbox though, so before that I'll have all my rooms filled with full sets and not much else. (Though right now my house is pretty much just filled with random things while I catalogue furniture.)

I want to have 150,000 HHA score at least once, so right now, my house is pretty cookie-cutter. Although, I have my exterior pretty much exactly as I've decided I want it and it doesn't necessarily have parts that match. xD I currently have a balloon room, a mermaid room, and a customized regal room. I find nothing wrong with it except that I'm only nearing 110,000 HHA score but I'm already running out of ideas to meet Lyle's approval and also be happy with how things look. I guess I may just have to have another stereotypical room, like an outdoor or sci fi themed room. At least I'm getting close, then I'll just start showcasing rooms that look like actual, functional house rooms and use only my favorite furniture pieces in them!

I used to both have a nintendo room and a gyroid room. I got rid of the nintendo room because it really doesn't look very nice - I just felt compelled to have one, because there are a lot of pieces and it would totally dominate my closet if I were to store it all. I didn't want to get rid of them, because they aren't reorderable and WHAT IF I suddenly decided that I wanted to display some of them?! So I let one of my alts store them. And then I realized that it's really all crap (to me), with the exception of a few pieces (like clothing). So I sold most of it.

I still have a gyroid room, also because of the modest amount of stuff we can store. I definitely don't want to get rid of my gyroids, but I will need to find a solution once I acquire the furniture set I want for that room. Brewster Y U no store gyroids?!

And my house is definitely going to be cookie cutter until I achieve the highest HHA score. That's the way the cookie crumbles.
It isn't entirely cookie cutter yet, because the only nearly complete set I have is mermaid.

Like many others said before me, whatever floats your boat. There's nothing wrong with (for example) a mermaid room (heck, I have one myself combined with custom regal furniture) but is it a bit annoying finding a mermaid room in every dream town I visit? Sometimes. Sometimes I find a mermaid room and go "oh wow! I never thought if using aquatic fossils in my mermaid room"! Part of the beauty of AC is that though every set is the same we can place it wherever we want and add extra things to it to make it our own.

My house (or mansion) is designed the way I designed my real house (well, apartment). Eclectic with pieces that compliment each other. I use the same design style and aesthetic. This is especially true for the walls and flooring in each room.

Yes, each room does have main pieces from a 'furniture set', but these sets are mixed and matched throughout, with other items thrown in to mix it up. For example, my 'cozy' basement is mostly 'Cabin' furniture, but I changed the carpet, added in some western items, hammock, and other items that compliment the overall looks, but do not totally match a theme. Same for my other rooms. The attic is the 'fun wreck-room' with sleek furniture, hardwood floors, DJ equipment, surround sound speakers, etc.

The 3 stacked rooms (Basement, Living/Main Room and Attic) are all 8x8 while the bottom supporting or surrounding rooms are 6x6. This was deliberate. ;)

That sounds awesome. Do you have a dream code yet?

Although I am collecting Nintendo items, I don't intend to have it as a room. I am planning to do a Japanese room... ; u ;
I'm currently planning to have different colour schemes in my house. I already have purple in the main room and pink upstairs.

I live in Japan, so I have a full set of StreetPass houses. Here's what the Japanese have over and over and over again - all Nintendo rooms, all balloon rooms, all ice series rooms, all mermaid rooms, all egg rooms, and all remade rococo rooms (regular rococo rooms are very rare). Especially that egg set. I don't know why. I think it's ugly, but I see it constantly.

I don't know if the Japanese care about gyroids in the same way. I don't think any of my houses have all gyroid rooms.

With the possible exception of the rococo set and the ice set, I don't think I'll ever make a room in my house have all of any of those sets I listed above. I just see them too much and it gets boring. I like having a more original style.

Edit: Oh, and I also see all Campus, 7-11, and Pav? at a reasonably high rate too, but not nearly as much as the ones I said above.

I'm Bruce Nolan, and that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Yeah, the Nintendo and Japanese rooms are all overdone, but it's understandable, considering this is a Nintendo game, and considering that the Japanese have had the game a lot longer than us and some would like to decorate their room accordingly with their culture.

As for me, I will never use either of those themes, nor the Gyroids. I'm not really into Japanese culture and decorating. Nothing against it, it just isn't my style. I much prefer Western styles. And the Nintendo stuff? It's cute, but it doesn't really work for me in room designing.

I never really like Nintendo rooms, they are always all the same. I use a few Gyroids in most of my rooms but do not use one room for them in general but we do have a gyroid room in the museum. I do however have a Zen Room filled with asian stuff so yes, I have a Japanese room.
