Cons of adopting?

I don't mind it that much, maybe it's because they rarely mention it :P The only time I get a bit angry is when either their house or shirt is way far off from the original, but even that's not too bad.

8 of my villagers are adopted, and only one or two of them ever talk about their old town. Even then, it's only been either, "I remember the mayor of the old town," or them singing the town tune. I also think the less done with the town, the less the villager will talk about it; like, I'm pretty sure only ones from towns with custom tunes ever sing them. Since a lot of cycling towns are left default, that doesn't seem to happen with villagers from there.

It really has only happened a few times in total for me, so I don't mind it~

I think it's pretty cute when they talk about their old town or sing their old town tune, but in a way I don't feel like the villager is "mine" when this happens. ;P I think I'm going to rely on the campsite for now on to get villagers.

Ohhh noooo they sing the town tune? I just made a mumble jumble of notes because I was too lazy to do a nice one... so my town tune's always been really weird. I was just too lazy to change/got used to it. There's no way my villagers can make this tune sound good when they sing it, no matter how cute they are lol.

Do they show letters in their new town too?? I send hella embarrassing letters to my villagers.

Oh my. Singing town tunes seem ok now but showing letter to new town???? nooooooooooooooooooooooo~~~~

Yea I have to agree with this. If this happen, u still feel the villagers doesn't belong in your town~ hahaha I feel that~

My adopted villagers sing the town tune from their previous towns all the time. I think it's cute~ I've never had them show me letters, though. Now I feel bad for the people who adopt my villagers. They'll be showing their new mayors my letters, which is just a list of foods I like or books I want to read or my favorite video games. They're probably disappointed they didn't get to see interesting letters :p

The only "cons" of adopting is that a villager's house is completely ruined. But that happens anyways, since villagers love adding random furniture to their homes.

I don't mind about the random house tho, coz they might gv me some of the items in exchange but not the letter nooo!!! All I been writing is repetitively "friends" lolx~

All of mine but Tangy are street pass pickups/adopted, and most of them mention their old towns less than once a week, if that. Chief's been with me since like July '13, and he hardly ever mentions it anymore.

They'll always remember. I think it's kinda cute because I like to listen to all the tunes and even remember the people I got them from. :)

I just can't escape Katt. The only time I'm annoyed with her, or was since maybe she finally moved away from my towns for good is that she kept saying that her "old town" was "filled with loonies." At first I was annoyed, but later it just made me laugh.

They'll stop talking about it soon..

Rowan's been talking about his old town since he moved in on August 16. It isn't that frequent, but he and the others do still bring their towns up.

On the other hand, I don't mind it. I appreciate the people who let me have my dreamies, so it's a nice way to remember who did what for me. That way, if they need a favor, and I recognize their character's name or town name, I wouldn't mind helping them out!

Lolly sang her old town tune for a couple of days but hasn't again since. I got her house fully to default by sending her a wrapped piece every day. Now, though, she has begun the usual process of trading stuff and putting stuff in Re-Tail. I'm not going to try to keep her at default.

I got Mott from wifi and he had a custom Tron shirt for months. I finally got Isabelle to change it today. He also has a custom catchphrase and has never ever asked me to give him a new one. He sometimes tells me I look like one of the secondary characters from his old town.

Adopting is overall better than streetpassing villagers in because you're handpicking them. The only downsides are: they come with their former town's catchphrase, clothing, furniture, etc

Personally, I don't get why people think it's a bad thing. Is it not right to still remember your old town and the memories that came with it? Why do you think you see your old villagers out on Main Street? OF COURSE they miss their previous town, and if they liked it enough, they may not stop talking about it. What's wrong with that, really? If villagers came into a new town and just completely forgot and denied their old town, you'd never see your old villagers on Main Street, because they no longer care about your town and they don't miss your town, nor do they miss you.

Aren't the only ones you see on Main Street the ones who were voided? Not that it takes away from your point. I don't care unless, as someone said earlier, you get someone who lived in a town with a nasty name and any other nasty elements that you can't just erase via Isabelle.

Not quite true -- some of the villagers in my Main Street were adopted out and not voided :0

The only con I can think of is the furniture. If the villager spent a long time in their previous village then it's guaranteed that their house will look a bit like a mess. It's very much reversible, though, you just need a bit of time and patience.

mine does all the time lol :/ kinda annoying since some have been there for "years" lol

Vesta mentions it a lot and shes been here since July
muffy hardly ever does
Stitches does ALOT
Freya hardly did, but now at my mum's she mentions me a lot..

The only thing that really bothers me about adopting is when I get villagers that are wearing ugly clothes. D: I can't stand bad clothes on my villagers.

Do you guys think the amount they talk about their old town has to do with their friendship levels with past mayors, or something? Most everyone has noted that certain villagers talk about their old towns more than others, and certain villagers I've gotten with original houses/catchphrases/etc tend to talk about them less.

Friendship does affect what they say. Most of the villagers that my boyfriend got from my cycling town talk badly about me, saying that they weren't very good friends with me, haha.
