After watching a Game Theory on the Lego Batman games (it was really interesting. I suggest you go give it a watch!) I realized how cool comics are. I mean, I had a slight interest before, but after doing a bit of research, I realized I had only skimmed the surface of the comic book world. I'm really interested, and it would be a cool new hobby to get into, plus the cosplay opputunities would be endless! Last night I went to the mall to walk around with my friend when I ran across this new comic book/anime/other nerdy stuff store. I wanted to spend hours in there just looking at stuff! But, my friend got bored pretty quick. There was so much to see! Expensive figures, comic books, manga, anime, these really cool figure-statue things of the characters, the guy behind the counter (tall, thin, cute hair, knew about Gorillaz) I'm definitely wanting to go back there, but I want to know what I'm looking at.

My two favorite characters from what I've seen are Black Canary (boobs!) and Zatanna (Cute magician! With boobs!). DC is really really cool to me, but I need someplace to start. Where would you suggest? The whole "Lantern" thing is cool. The different colors and stuff.

Sorry if I seem like an idiot, but I'm just starting to get into this stuff.

Read: Bravest Warriors

Made by the creator of Adventure Time. However, it doesn't suck like Adventure time. There's also an animated series if you don't feel like reading but the Comic Book storyline and show storyline don't follow each other.

1) I like Adventure Time. I'm not obsessed, but I think it's pretty good
2) I've seen Bravest Warriors and stuff
3) Not exactly what I was looking for, lol, but I'll look into it

I've been into comics for a long time. I would read Garfield, Far Side, and Archie all the time when I was young. I started reading The Walking Dead a few years ago. I'd like to start reading the Fables series. I want to read more comics ,but I have trouble finding ones that interest me. I hate superheroes.

Why do you hate superheroes?

(Nice to see you back, by the way)

This really depends on what kind of comics you like. I love superheroes, but I don't really care to read comics about them.

My suggestions:
-Scott Pilgrim series
-Fables
-Sandman
-Y the Last Man
-The Walking Dead
-Chew(my fav)

There are other stand alone books but those are my favorite series.^^

I can't really recommend that much if you're looking more at magic characters. Maybe Doctor Strange or Captain Britain/Excalibur.

Since my overall favorite character is Deadpool, with the others being along the lines of Judge Dredd, X-23, Spiderman and Punisher, I'm probably not helpful in terms of magic based characters. (I mean, 3/5 of those just shoot things).

If you're looking for specifically female characters though, X-23 is pretty good, if a little underused and obscure. She's essentially the female Wolverine but with a better character/back story and better skills/powers. They're similar enough to have the 'female Wolverine' comparison, but different enough that I like her but can't stand him.
I dunno, it's always nice to like at least one of the more obscure characters.

Deadpool is pretty decent even if you're not really into the 'violent' stuff. He's an overall 'comedy character', and probably one of the more popular of them. The humor can be juvenile but he's also a character that breaks the fourth wall which adds a lot of odd possibilities. He's pretty give or take with most people though, you either like him or you don't.
He is overall violent but it's often not the selling point for most people.

You could always have a look for the character encyclopedia's, or just flip through them in a book store. Yano, just look for a few characters that catch your eye in them and look further into that character. I own a few of these like the 'Marvel Encyclopedia' and they're just crammed with characters. I always get interested in comic book characters based on their appearance, so this is usually a good method for me.

Have a look into the other less popular companies as well (the ones that aren't DC/Marvel) like Dark Horse or 2000 AD. They're less popular but they pretty much all have that one franchise you've heard about.
(though I think Dark Horse only does licensed comics and 'Spawn' these days)

I'm more of a Marvel person, so I would suggest the Young Avengers, Runaways, or Joss Whedon's run of Astonishing Xmen. I like a few DC titles: Batwoman ~ Elegy, and Batgirl(the Stephanie Brown run).
