Can we get some love for this game on TBT? There hasn't been much or any hype at all for that matter. Although I get it because personally it did look pretty lackluster... until I played the demo on the eShop right now. Holy hell I'm in love with it now. If you're a fan of turn based strategy games, you owe yourself to give the demo a go. Come back with your impressions here!

Most of the characters are pretty cringe, but I might give it the benefit of the doubt and try the demo (I won't)

all I remember was it boring the **** out of me to the point of being legitimately annoyed with how much and how long they kept showing it off at e3

visual direction is kinda neat in areas, but that's all it really has going for it to me

ps the Fire Emblem models looked like crap, and I sincerely hope that they're unfinished

Oh, I've been quite in hype about this game personally. Judging from the clips Nintendo have been doing in their directs, I find the RPG element in this game to be pretty interesting. Gotta go get the demo now!

I thought that since it was a turn based strategy game, the enemy would always know where you are and there's no point in hiding. I accidentally hid in one of my missions and noticed that the enemy just zipped through the stage and didn't see me.
It has stealth elements, everybody!
That kinda sold me but I don't think I will be buying it until I get a New N3DS. The amiibo functionality. Marth in the game. That, would sell me

I didn't really buy into any of the hype. I usually don't for new IP's until there's a demo or it's actually released (I don't trust pre-release hype).

The demo was...eh...I'll just say I didn't play it for very long.
It felt so slow paced with every single enemy having to go through their 'thing' for their turn with no option to 'speed up' or 'skip' that part like a lot of these style of strategy games have. Not to mention that if you're stood behind something, these parts will consist of looking at crates for 2 minutes whilst the enemy has its turn. As far as I could find, there was no option to 'speed up' these parts or anything.
I can understand and tolerate 'slow pacing' for the enemy in a multiplayer turn based game as real people have to think about what they're doing, but I don't expect this issue on the single player.

Not to mention it obviously has leveling and progression. I really can't 'get into' a demo if those types of features are in a game. It feels like I'm wasting my time to some degree since I'm going to have to 'progress' again when I buy the real thing.
Even if you can transfer your demo data to the full version, I start again out of preference so that I can 'get into it' from the start.

I may buy it on or sometime after release since having the full game will at least make the leveling and progression feel worthwhile, but I don't think that the issue with the pacing is something that's going to change between now and then.

"Musta heard me clunkin' around"

I actually really liked the demo! I dig the strategy elements and im kinda suprised more people didnt like it?? Especially since "omg fe:a is the best!" is commonly seen around here :p I love the steam punk and the comic-inspired art! Your team at the demo is practically captain america, scar, and a grumpy Pocahontas??? Sign me up! Oh and the other guy (who is sorta forgettable woops)

Only negatives are the repetitive dialogue and the super long alien phases. Hopefully the full version will allow you to speed up or skip the alien phase?? Although the overwatch thing is kinda important in alien phases.....they take wayyyy to long though. At that's just at the beginning of the game - imagine how long it'll be at the endgame when you're swarmed??

I won't buy it day one, but maybe when it goes on sale? Or like a $10 discount lol. Hopefully they put in that speedup option!

GRUMPY POCAHONTAS omg

I'm thinking/hoping that the repetitive dialogue is just for the sake of demo file size and they only included a couple lines. Let's hope so at least. And yeah the alien phases sure do take their time sometimes.

More people check out the demo please!

This game seems really boring. Why did Japanese people decide to take these American history icons and do weird things with them then throw Fire Emblem on top?

this game gonna suck
although the best thing about this game is that feature that allows you to MARTH RESTOCK INCOMING

When they first showed Codename S.T.E.A.M at the roundtable at E3 2014, I was bored out of my mind. I tried to like it, but the game looked so boring that I didn't even want to watch footage of it or hear about it. The fact that they tried to make it a comic book style game with American icons was really stupid, in my opinion, and the characters are sort of cringeworthy (with the exception of that pumpkin guy, who I think is sort of cool).

However, after I tried the demo, I did like the game. I'm still not very hyped for it, though, and I didn't fall in love with the demo or anything. I'll probably end up picking it up at some point if the price drops ($20 is probably the max I would pay for this game), but right now, I still don't really know if I should buy it, even with its amiibo support (I have an Ike amiibo now, so I would love to use Ike in something other than Smash).

Overall, I think my main problem with it is how slow-paced the gameplay is (even Fire Emblem feels more exciting and fast-paced) and how terrible the art style is. For me, a terrible art style can bore me, and that is exactly what Codename S.T.E.A.M is doing. I'm glad that Nintendo is trying new things, but Codename S.T.E.A.M just isn't something that looks that good. I'm really glad that Nintendo is at least making one new IP that looks fantastic, though: Splatoon! I seriously cannot wait for Splatoon! It looks like so much fun! :)

Demo is already in the eshop! Took me like 2-3h to beat so it's a nice little demo.

Oh oops lol I guess I can check it out then. The gameplay looked cool in vids I saw, I just am like wtf with this story and whatnot.

Thiiiiissssss is exactly how I felt. Gonna try demo anyway just in case, even though a lot of these demos are kinda bad too.

For anybody who is still skeptical about Codename S.T.E.A.M, watch GameXPlain's 1-hour live-stream (it's not actually "live" anymore) of Codename S.T.E.A.M. It shows you part of the gameplay, but it doesn't really spoil a lot. At least, I don't think it spoils a lot, considering I just need something to show me that I should give this game a chance. It's a great video, and it makes the game look like a lot of fun. After watching it, I felt like replaying the demo again, and I enjoyed replaying it much more this time than the last two times I played it. I've also been watching some other Codename S.T.E.A.M videos on YouTube, and i'm actually sort of excited for this game. It looks like it would be a really fun game to play.

For everybody who is still skeptical, I highly recommend watching YouTube videos of others playing the game. There are some youtubers who do a much better job promoting the game than Nintendo actually does.

Justin convinced me to give the demo a go and I tried it out about a week ago (he wouldn't stop talking about it, haha). It didn't appeal to me at first, but after a level or so I really started to get into it and understand why he likes it so much now! I'd be tempted to buy the full game. :)
