Clothing/item rules?

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew more about the exact “rules” of how gifting your villagers clothing items works?
Such as, I know you can give them accessories like hats and glasses, but in my experience they wear it for one day then place it in their house. Is there a way around this? Or is this because it’s not their preferred style? ;p

Same goes for regular clothes. A good example is the classic Raymond maid dress. Is there any chance he can wear it for longer than a day? I find it strangely disheartening watching them display their clothes!! Thanks <3

This is what I know but not 100% sure:
- villagers prefer wearing clothes to wearing accessories
- villagers prefer wearing clothes of their preferred style and colour
- villagers are more likely to wear clothes you gifted them when you have high friendship
- some villagers cannot wear accessories (e.g. Agent S since she has a helmet)
