You can also bury pitfall seeds around your town like this:

That way, people may think it's something to dig up and they'll have to stand on it in order to dig it up! You may also put all of them as pitfalls or either one of the four as a pitfall trap or item.
But be careful when making these because you might end up falling in one yourself! Well, it's just some idea. You don't really have to use it. You might need to place them near walls as some people that have read this post will know. Placing them near walls is handy so they can't go around and dig it up.
And all that is only if you are doing a treasure hunt, which I hope you do. ^.^
