I am going for a natural theme, waiting for the Mushroom items are killing me tho. XDD But If you're having a hard time I would look around for ideas and see which one you like the most. And you could also do a mix, like have a city area and a natural area~ Just go with the flow and you'll slowly find a theme that sticks with you.
You could have heavily commercialized airport area when people first arrive, like most airports in real life being in larger cities. Can do the museum, nooks, other features, etc.
Then do a separation that you have to cross between... like a cliff, river, park, etc. Again, several large cities are sort of getting bigger vertically because they just cant really expand out thanks to rivers or cliffs in real life. =p
The rest of the island be the natural that you desire. The forests, the parks, the homey yards, the campsiting areas, etc.
You could even split the villagers between the zones however you wise. Like how some people live in the city while others prefer to live in the country!
The city ones are impressive but my humble island has a natural theme lol. I tried to make it look more city-like around my shops but it still looks like a village.
I like both styles but I am trying to go for a small town tropical vibe on my island. I dunno if I am succeeding yet but something about being stuck indoors for months makes me want to see lots of palm trees and colorful flowers.
Definitely a natural theme so far, although I'm just starting on my neighbourhood/residential area so I guess we'll see if I want to go for a more urban look!
Mine's both. My island is split in half, with the left side natural and the other, residential. It's not heavily urbanized though, but still modern enough.
A mixture of the two but leaning more towards the natural side. I have 4 zones: downtown (museum, RS, shops), residential (villager houses), "city park" (fun outdoor decorations) and "nature park" (trees, flowers, rocks). My nature park is in the north side so it would have the best waterfall scenery.
I enjoy a mixture of both. It’s nice to have the urban area close to resident services whereas the area where residents live can have a more rural and natural look to it!
