A cat’s brain is biologically more similar to a human brain than it is to a dog’s. Both humans and cats have identical regions in their brains that are responsible for emotions.
Fun fact: There are certain parasites that get inside of a host animal and control them. They normally get their host eaten and then reproduce inside of the feces of the animal that ate them. Animals that do this include parasitic worms, bacteria and even some species of amoeba.
For instance, there is a parasite that gets into the mind of an ant. when the ant is infected, the parasite controls it and tells it to go to the very top of the longest grass blade. It does this because the parasite can only reproduce in chemicals found in the stomach of a sheep. Since the ants are at the top of the grass, they are easily eaten and swallowed. the parasite leaves the ant and reproduces, and it actually reenters the ant when worker ants gather the feces of the sheep for building and eating. I am not making this up.
Trivia: When a sperm whale ingests something hard to digest, and it isn't immediately vomited and continues through the sperm whale's body, it gets covered in a hard waxy substance called ambergris. Ambergris is then either vomited up or passed through feces, and if it stays intact, ages, and reaches land, it can be collected. Years and years ago it was used for perfumes, since aged ambergris has a sweet scent. So basically they used whale poop/vomit for perfume
My little bit of trivia:
Scientists found that when dog owners interacted with their dogs, their dogs actually released the 'love hormone' called oxytocin. In other words, dogs really do love their owners. ^-^
I read somewhere that a cat's whiskers are usually as wide as it's widest part on its body so it can use the whiskers to make sure it'll fit... not sure if that's true or not, but I heard it somewhere!!
(Just wanna let you all know that I'm still checking this thread from time to time, and I can honestly say that it'll be hard to choose from the entries since I didn't know a lot before! Also, giveaway ends in more or less a week, so keep 'em coming~ ^^)
Dang, this is really hard. The weirdest trivia? Only one huh. There have been a lot of good ones in this thread XD
19th century scientist Gerardo Hescalio believed that humans evolved from potatoes, as they both had skin. He announced his theory in 1881, but nobody believed him and called him a dunce.
Fittingly, exactly 2 years later (1883) he died of food poisoning. It was later discovered he died from a rotten potato he ate around ten hours before
Sea stars have no brains and no blood. Their nervous system is spread through their arms and their “blood” is actually filtered sea water.
A starfish feeds by first extending its stomach out of its mouth and over the digestible parts of its prey, such as mussels and clams. The prey tissue is partially digested externally before the soup-like "chowder" produced is drawn back into its 10 digestive glands.
thanks for doing this giveaway Skarmy! here's my entry:
Dolphins only allow one half of their brains to sleep at a time; the other half stays alert to enable the dolphin to continue breathing and look out for dangers in the environment. Dolphins only close one eye when they sleep; the left eye will be closed when the right half of the brain sleeps, and vice versa.
in my experience, when I see a group of dolphins in shallow water swimming slowly and closely together, and they arent chattering, that means they are sleeping.
An adorable trivia fact:Sea otters hold hands when they sleep so they don't drift apart. A weird but interesting trivia fact:Google was originally named BackRub. Thanks for hosting!
Enzo Ferrari told a man "you may be able to drive a tractor but you will never be able to handle a Ferrari properly." The man was so angry that he vowed to create the perfect car. His name was Ferruccio Lamborghini.
During the Back to the Future movie the Famed Daloreion car Broke down and they could not get the back up car there in time to film the part
So they took a truck tied a rope to the Daloreion and pulled it to complete the part. all told during the 3 films the cars broke down 7 times.
I found this kind of funny/interesting. Fredric Baur was the guy who invented the Pringles can. When he passed away in 2008, his ashes were buried in one.
