Selling Chibi Mayor art

I have been alerted that this user traces their art and poses from a user on Deviant Art.

The person who notified me about this shall remain anonymous, but everyone who has ordered or is planning to order from Foxychan is encouraged to request a refund or remove your orders.

Case in point: The signature she made for me as of recently:

Traced from Ippus on DA: http://ippus.deviantart.com/art/Mixed-Chibi-Growth-Line-4-185529138 (The Pink-haired chibi in the middle, 2nd row.)

I also noticed immediately after seeing these chibis of Ippus's on DA that Kairi-Kitten's piece was also traced from the same link (the blonde girl at the top left). And Foxychan's very own mayor in her own signature was traced from the girl in the third row middle with the bunny hat.

I didn't look up everyone's in this post, but chances are, you'll find the pose for your mayor (if you ordered one of these), in Ippus's chibis on DA.

Foxychan, please refund everyone who paid for this traced art. Art theft, in all forms, is not an acceptable thing to do.

Wow, what a shame. She's obviously very talented, so I wonder why she feels the need to resort to art theft. Thanks for notifying us, Amissapanda!

Well, she also traced over the dress and changed it to my Mayor's outfit, so it seems like more than that. Either way, though, I don't condone tracing and making profits off of someone else's work. It's just not right.

Yeah, it was a shock to find out. She didn't make a single mention of tracing her work from a popular DA artist. But as for notifying, no problem - everyone here has a right to know (especially if they have already bought from her or are planning to). I can't take credit for discovering this, though. It was the person who PMed me who opened my eyes to what was going on. I have never seen Ippus's art before now, so I wouldn't have made the connection on my own.

Much thanks to the person who told you about it, as well! There are so many amazing DA artists out there, I think that unless you really know their work it's almost impossible to figure out someone's been stealing it. Which is why I fear a lot of people would get away with it, too.

I agree. That's the scary thing about it, when you think about it. I've recognized it a ton in my main fandom (especially artists outside of Japan copying/tracing/remaking Japanese art and trying to take credit for it), but outside of the area I'm familiar with, it would be almost impossible to stop without someone who recognizes it.

The last time she logged in was a month ago, I dont think anyone would be able to get a refund if she's inactive now...

Can mods help with this situation?

She said she was on holiday, but yeah, she's been gone about a month now.

I suppose it doesn't hurt to at least bring this up with the staff, as she essentially scammed people by tracing artwork that belongs to someone else and selling it for a profit.

Tracing to practice your skills is fine. However, tracing and selling is not. Morally it's wrong to claim something as your own when it in fact, isn't. You can't just change some parts around. Unless they were free bases and you had permission (and a link to the original artist who allows the use of their base), you cannot sell traced art on the Bell Tree or anywhere else. Anyone who has placed an order should have their bells refunded. If you don't have enough bells to refund your customers you need to earn them. If you have proof that you have permission to use those I will get in contact with the DA artist who is allowing you to use them and confirm their permission. If you don't have proof of permission I ask that you please refund the bells.

If you open up shop again, and I hope that you do because you are very talented, please remember to use original artwork or show proof of permission and give credit to the original artist for their bases.
