Character rest question

If I make a new character that I want to keep, does that conflict when I do the plot reset trick? If that makes sense.

So you mean keeping the villager you used for reseting? No, you can't do that unless you like the villager the first time.

No like if I made my daughter a character right now so she can play, will I still be able to do the villager reset with a new one (not my kids character)

The maximum number of player characters you can have in one town is 4, so you will still be able to create a new one to do the reset trick.
