Changing Roof Color

When I expanded my house yesterday, to add the room in the back, Nook didn't ask me about the roof color. I know there's a way to change it by talking to him, but when I ask him to talk about my home the only two options are expanding or relocating.

Does anyone know when and how we unlock the option to change roof color?

I believe it's after the next room addition. You'll be able to freely customize the roof/mailbox.
