So I love Vladimir so much. He’s a cranky pink bear cub - what more could you ask for? But he has the ugliest house interior in the whole game. I’ve been giving him furniture for months. It’s gotten a bit better, but no matter what I give him, he won’t replace the iron frames or that last orange cone (he had two originally and replaced one.)

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I’d really appreciate it.

*Edit* Update - Vlad’s house redecoration is now complete!

The iron frames seem to work like 2x1 tables, so maybe try a low table? Not sure about the cone... sometimes tools or an umbrella work when nothing else will.

I like your changes to make it feel more like a home. :)

Thank you. I've tried giving him a variety of 2x1 tables, but he always replaces the dresser with them, never the iron frames. I'll try your umbrella idea for the cone. It's frustrating. I wish we could actually decorate villagers' houses, instead of just giving them things hoping they'll use them the way we want them to.

I gave him 6 or 7 different beds. I wanted him to use one to replace his original bed, which was a camping cot. Every time he'd put the bed where the dresser is now, and still keep the camping cot. Then I read an article about swapping villager furniture that said they'll never swap out their original beds. So I gave up, but my husband gave him the mixed wood block bed and he miraculously swapped out his cot! Since then I've tried giving him other 2x1 beds, thinking that since the bed he has now isn't his original bed, he might swap again, but he never does, all the beds go right where that dresser is. I wonder if the original cot swap was a fluke.

He swapped the first cone for a cacoa tree, so I sent him another, hopping he'd use it to swap the second cone, but he used it to swap out the garbage can.

If anyone knows of a good guide on villager furniture, please let me know.

Looking at the category his items are, using this site, the iron frames are in the "base_sp" category, so if I understand it correctly, the only items that could replace them are those in the "base_sp" category and are 2x1.
Use this to check item's categories.

Seems there's not many options you could replace them with...
Bamboo Bench
Golden Casket
Spooky Lantern Set

As for the cone, it's "None", so any item that's 1x1 should eventually replace it.

Wow! Thank you so much!!! This is so helpful! :)

Thanks to the guide you sent me I was able to get rid of the iron frames and the traffic cone!

Now Vlad’s house doesn’t look as much like construction site.

You did a great job !

I wonder if we can do the same with "default" houses 🤔

You mean the houses that starter villagers have? I don't have any starters to test it.

Honestly, all my bear cubs have pretty cute houses, except for Vladimir, but after this little remodel, I'm happy with it.

If anyone else has done a complete redesign of their villager houses, please share them!

I love before and after pics like these:

Yes, the 5 first houses. I still have 4 of them I don't want to let go 😅
I tried to replace the jock's sleeping bag but it's not working, he replaces another item with the beds I give him 🤪

Vladimir was doing the same thing! I sent him lots of various 2x1 beds, hoping he'd replace his original camping cot, but he'd always put them where the dresser is now, and keep the cot. I read in a guide that villagers won't replace their original beds, but obviously that's wrong because Vlad did - eventually!

Maybe it's just rare for them to swap beds? IDK...

wow, you did a great job fixing his house. i looked at the first picture and thought there's no way you can fix it, but you did!!! really cool

Thank you! It was a lot of trial & error, gifting & re-gifting, but I think it was worth it in the end. :giggle:

Oh man I'm glad you figured something out! I just wanted to say that this is such an impressive redecoration -- I have a friend who's trying to redo Billy's house and I might have to send them this before/after to let them know there's hope yet, haha.

And I love your all cub island! What a set of cuties!

Billy is the one with a garbage theme interior, right? I'd love to see a before and after of his home re-decoration.

This is so impressive! I wanna try something similar with Chief’s house, although I kinda love his alleyway theme. I’ve given him so many bugs, fish, clothes that it will take a long to change everything...

Use the guides that NefariousKing linked in his post above. It was a lifesaver for me. After giving Vladimir dozens of 2x1 tables, hoping in vain that he'd use them to replace the iron frames, I gave him two bamboo benches (one with my character & one with my husband's character), and the next day the iron frames were gone! I was literally jumping for joy!!!

I hadn't played in so long that I had forgotten villagers put items you give them in their homes so now I've got reneigh's house with a giant black bass in the middle of it and I'm just over here like :cautious: you did such a good job with his new layout tho! it looks a lot more homely than it did before

I've noticed that when you give them furniture, the fish and bugs are the first things they replace, so hopefully it will be easy to replace that black bass with something else. :sneaky:
