So I'd always had problems with my cedar trees, and I did a little research, and they can't be planted south.
This kinda ruins my town design entirely, because my town is forest/zen themed and I was going to line my paths like this:

c= cedar b=bamboo p=purple pansy r= blue rose

C P B R C P B R

If that's too confusing, I was basically going to alternate bamboo and cedar.
BUT NOW I CAN'T AAAGHHH

HELP ME OUT HERE GUYS
I really don't want to just use saplings, ew
Ideas?

idk what did you guys do?

Maybe use pear trees? They're green...
Or just bamboo. c,:

I know it's a little less pretty though. I was disappointed when I found that out too.

Your theme is similar to mine though. With the colors.

You might try to plant just one on the most southern point of your plan and see if it grows ... then you are only sacrificing one tree if it dies. I have had cedars grow quite a lot further south than I believed possible.

I was disappointed too. My campground was near the cliff in the front. I had plans to put cedar trees around it.
Instead I just put some regular trees along the pathways. Than a row of flowers and than a stepping stone pathway with clovers.
Just behind the campground I planted three shrubs and two trees. Made the two trees into stump so I could sit on them.
Along the side I planted more regular trees and added shrubs in between the trees. Left an opening for a walk way. It's a nice private area where I can sit on the log and listen to the ocean.

My cedars were able to go down farther than I thought.

Wow, I never knew they couldn't be planted South! :o That explains why I had cedar trees that refused to grow no matter what I did...

Oh wow I didn't know that and was eventually going to plant cedar trees around my campsite but I guess that's not happening. I have lychee trees there at the moment and will probably stick with those instead.

Yeah, it's been like that in all AC games so far :/

I'd say just use regular trees or bamboo instead. Or nothing at all. Those are pretty much your only choices since you can't make cedar trees grow in the south xD

Good luck with your landscaping ~

The cutoff point is the middle of town. That seems to include the beach though, so they do grow a bit further south than you'd expect! Maybe it won't mess with your plan too much

Oh, is that what the parameters are? I didn't know that ... In my second town I have cedars growing along my cliff edge above the beach, so I checked on the map and the last one is around the halfway point all right! Interesting! Lol :D
