Can't Give my Villagers Flowers

Has anyone noticed that they can't give their villagers flowers lately? I'm on the new update and last night I picked some flowers to give to my villagers today. I can't give them any for some reason. They're grayed out for some reason. I can literally give them anything else but flowers for some reason. Anyone have any idea why? Is it because of the Earth Day events and they want all the flowers to stay on the island?

From what I remember you can only give them flowers you pick!! So if you pick the buds off a planted flower you can give the villager it c:
