Do you think it is possible for someone to be a fan of a celebrity, if you dislike or even hate them? Personally, I don't think so. I think it's possible to like one of their songs or movies, but I don't think you could call yourself a fan.

What do you think?

well its possible to like their music and such but you wouldn't be a fan of them if you disliked them obviously

I don't think it would make very much sense, so no. There are bands and stuff I like and that I'm fans of even though I dislike a member or two, though.

Well...Depends what you mean really.

There's a few musicians that I adore the music of, think they're fantastic players, give great live performances, great at interacting with fans and some of the things they've done and achieved are sometimes simply inspiring. I also think some of these people are complete and utter tools that I wouldn't want to actually sit down with and have a conversation.

Dave Mustaine, for example.
- Fantastic guitarist, writer and gives a kick ass live performance. He got kicked out of one of the biggest metal bands around just before they made it big (Metallica) and still managed to achieve arguably equal success with his own project (Megadeth), which is pretty damn impressive for somebody to do. He's gotten through drug addiction, alcohol addiction, worked through and recovered from an injury that doctors said would stop him playing guitar indefinitely (now he's arguably better than before the injury). He's written some of the most iconic metal riffs, helped create one of the most popular and loved subgenres of metal.
- He's also an utter ****ing tool. He's bitter, petty, short tempered, egocentric, pompous and rather childish. He's also incredibly ignorant and says some incredibly dated, close minded and downright stupid ****. If I were given the choice to meet the guy in person, I would rather just go home and masturbate with sandpaper.

So yea, I would call myself a fan of his despite the fact I hope I never meet the ****. I mean, I own all his albums, seen him live twice and class him as one of my main inspirations and influences for music, but he's still a complete tool and I don't like him personally from what I've seen.

I'm a fan of people for their work, not whether they're a 'nice chap' or share my views. That seems like more of a fan than (for example) somebody who burns their entire Lady Gaga CD collection and claims "she's dead to me" because she said "we should euthanize 3 legged dogs at birth".

(Lady Gaga was just an example. She probably hasn't said we should euthanize 3 legged dogs...Probably)

I guess to me it's more of are you a fan of (again as an example) 'Dave Mustaine' the musician/performer/celebrate or 'Dave Mustaine' the person/guy/man.
If it's the second one, I believe that's called 'being a friend'. But that's something I don't think you can do without some sort of personal relationship with them.

i like a few songs from Big Bang, but i'm not a fan of them.
in all honesty the only person from big bang i even consider being a decent human being is T.O.P and even he has his faults.

I think you can be a fan of their work, but not of them. I personally wouldn't call myself a fan of someone if I liked their work and hated them as a person, I'd just say that I liked their work. Being a fan is like..... uh idk but not that, at least that's how I feel

Yes its entirely possible. People can like everything someone does as an actor/singer whatever they do, but despise who they are as a person, they would still be a "fan" of their work and still enjoy it, no matter how much they dislike the person behind it.

There can also be people who hate someone so much that they're "obsessed" with them, but that's not being a fan.

Yes of course you can be. Example: I'm a big fan of BBC's "Top Gear" (the British version, ofc). I don't really watch it for the cars but it's a really funny programme and the challenges they do are pretty entertaining and interesting. But if you live in the UK (or well, even if you don't) you might know about the whole scenario including Jeremy Clarkson and him getting sacked by the BBC. He's said and done some pretty controversial things and I don't agree with him on a lot of things but I do think he makes a great programme and it's really enjoyable. I don't know how I will live without a Top Gear Christmas special this year to tell you the truth, it's just not going to be the same. I've always found James May to be funnier but anyways, whilst I think Jeremy Clarkson is a bit of an arsehole at times, I'm a big fan of the show. Or rather, I was, since it is no more. :(

i'm this way. it doesn't happen often, but sometimes i just like an artist's song but they're problematic people.
