Can villagers play the K.K. music you give to them?

I'm asking this question because I tried doing this in New Leaf once but the result was that my villagers (the ones who have music players in their house) never played it and gave it back to me eventually. Did it change in New Horizons or is it pretty much the same from your experience?

They can but they will alternate between the one you gave them and their original song. Idk what happens if you give them more than one.

They will use tools like the colorful fishing rod and umbrellas that you give them as well.

EDIT: Do note that they will also display those tools, umbrellas and songs in their house so keep that in mind.

In ACNL I was able to change Ed song. For ACNH a villager displayed it on the floor for awhile. It's gone from their house.
