hello all! i hope i posted in the right thing

anyway, i'll start by saying i'm a casual pokemon player, and i have never been really competitive but rather just enjoyed the story-lines of the games. i'm about half way through pokemon y at the moment c:

on the forums i see quite a few pokemon threads, people selling/breeding all these special kinds of pokemon, and i keep seeing all these crazy words that i don't understand

i would love if someone could explain to me the general keywords and such in this pokemon market. the things i see mainly are:

-Genned
-Perfect 5/6IV
-KB/HB
-3V2U Hidden Power
-Egg moves
-Lv.50 + EV fully Trained

thank you if you can help out!!

Genned = PokeGen'd. It means they generated the pokemon and injected it into the game using cheats/illegal means.
Perfect 5/6IV is a term used in the competitive scene. It means it has 5-6 Maxed IVs which give it an advantage over those who don't.
Egg Moves are moves that can not be obtained from leveling up, only from breeding with another pokemon of the same egg group.
Lv. 50 + EV Trained is another competitive term. EVs are points gained as you fight certain things, and give an advantage over those who aren't EV Trained.

IV bred + EV trained + Lv 50 or higher are the things it takes to join VGC/most Smogon rules. VGC and Smogon are the main playstyles of pokemon competitive.

Not quite sure on KB/HB/3V2U Hidden Power, but Hidden Power is a move obtained by a TM but the power type (Dark, Water, Fairy Etc) is determined by the IV spreads.

ah ok, that clears things up, thank you! what does IV / EV stand for may i ask?

KB/HB = kalos born/hoenn born, this means these pokemon are from gen 6 and will have a tiny pentagon in their summary screen!

I'm pretty sure its Individual Value and Effort Value.

Effort meaning from the things you fought,
Individual meaning random/bred from birth--therefore making it 'unique' (even tho if you have a 6IV Ditto and 6IV Parent, you're 100% gonna get at least 5 perfect IVs.) :)

Thank you for that! I wasn't sure as I haven't even finished my Hoenn game..

Used to be HUGE into X/Y meta though.

oh ok! i was getting confused with 'genned' and 'generation' haha
i heard that those pentagons were there to let the player know if their pokemon is legit or not? or something like that

thank you both ! i'll check out those pages

As far as I know, they're just to say that the egg was hatched within those regions.
Now that doesn't mean its 100% legit, as PokeGen can be done to make it have the pentagon. :)

Nah! When the games first came out there was a lot of speculation about the pentagon but it's been confirmed that it's there to show it's from 6th gen.

No problem, & gl

The pentagon is there to signal it been born in gen 6 (XY & ORAS), in the beginning it was used as a way of knowing if it was a legally obtaining pok?mon since there was no way to create pok?mon in gen 6, but that's long gone, since it has been possible to make pok?mon in gen 6 for a long time now.
