I want to know if it's even possible for amiibo villagers to move on their own. Am I stuck with them forever?

They can ask to move but it will take longer than normal. For example I had Blaire and she was from the campsite and she moved out it about a week but my friend scanned in Hopkins and he asked to move out about a year later.

They can ask to move but it takes a looonnngg time.None of the Amiibo villagers I scanned in shortly after the Amiibo update have pinged to move. You need to have at least eight Amiibo villagers in your town before they ping to move like "natural" villagers.

If you've only scanned in the two of them, then they will take forever to ping you to move. I scanned in Grizzly over a year ago now and he has never pinged me to move, which is good because he's not allowed to leave. But he and Anicotti are the only Amiibo villagers in my town and neither has ever asked to leave. Anicotti has only been around for a few months, though.

If you really want them out, the best option is to get another Amiibo card and scan that villager in to replace them. But then you'll just end up in the same situation with that villager if you ever get tired of them and if you don't have any more cards, you're kind of stuck. I think that's one of the major flaws of the Amiibo system.

It's probably not a flaw to them, because then there's a potential for people to spend more money on amiibo cards to replace other villagers.

Yeah I don't recall there being any official article explaining the amiibo villager permanency but I assume they programmed it that way for a reason. I'm kinda on the fence about it since the amiibo villagers I have moved in were meant to be my "forever" villagers and of course, they haven't asked to move out yet. But maybe down the line if I were to replace them, then scanning another villager in to replace them would be the only way.

But to answer OP question, yes, you are kinda stuck with them unless you are willing to scan in another villager to replace them or be realllyyy patient and hope they move out. But coming from a serial time traveller, the many many months that have passed since I've scanned them in, they have only ONCE asked to move. In my case (for reference) I have a town where all 9 villagers are natural and 1 villager is a card scan - that villager has never asked to move. In my second town, 4 are natural villagers, 6 are card scans. Only Ken has asked to move out once, who was my first ever card scan. It's so infrequent that now I only look out for my 4 natural villagers to ping me about moving.

Please don't take it that they won't ever move. It can take a while, but yes they DO move out on their own. I had Cece, along with a few other amiibo villagers, and I felt safe, thinking that none of them would move. Well guess what, Cece decided that one day she would move and didn't tell me, I only found out when she sent a goodbye letter and after i saw her house was gone. I was debating whether or not I should move a new person in her old spot, but I caved and just moved her back in with her amiibo. So yes, they do move, and if its someone you really like, just don't let your guard down too much, because they will move and no one will tell you.

I scanned both Marty and Murphy in a while ago. Murphy occasionally asks, but Marty never does.

Yep. Unfortunately villagers who move in from Amiibo cards rarely ask to move out unlike villagers who move in randomly from the game itself. If you have less than 8 villagers who moved in from Amiibo cards, then they will rarely ask to move. If you need to, it might be better to move them out with another villager Amiibo card that you like. :)
