Can i buy an item off of a villager that i gifted to them?

i just saw somthing about being able to buy things from villagers because i geuss they can sell them to you which i didnt know also i heard that they sell stuff in retail that i didntq know ethier.. im hoping i can buy somthing off of someome thst i gifted them on accident

I think you're getting confused with a mechanic that was in New Leaf. You used to be able to buy furniture from villagers that they were displaying in order to change their interior. Sadly, you can't do that in NH.

Retail was the name of one of the buildings in NL.

At a high enough friendship level, they will run up and offer to sell you things. I have been offered something I gifted to them before, but I think that may have just been random. What did you give them?

i gave apple a pink hamster cage, which she never displayed, and she pinged my alt character offering to sell it. of course, i gave it back to her right away. hope this helps!

edit: she also mentioned that it looked familiar and took it anyway.

There’s no way to buy gifts back in NH. Only way to possibly get them back is when they move out, they’ll leave one item that was gifted to them in the recycle bin.

is just random and just coincidence was the same kind of item. I gifted chief a cavalier hat, he wore it once then displayed it in his house . the other day he gifted me one and I had hoped I got it back to try again, but when I checked his house the displayed one was still there.
