Can amiibo force out villagers in moving-in boxes?

Got someone else's voided villager going to move into my empty plot tomorrow. Right now it's just a "sold" plot. If I scan an amiibo tomorrow, can they replace the one who will be unpacking? Or do I need to wait until they're fully moved in to force them out with amiibo? I already scanned the amiibo three times, so they're ready to go.

They can't be asked to leave while still unpacking.
