given how you're locked to one island per system, it is looking like you're also locked to one player per profile
though eight player residents per island was already confirmed, yes. just not sure if they're profile locked or not (unless that was confirmed too and I missed it)
Yep - 8 characters per island, one island per Switch. I've also understood it as being one character per profile, otherwise it would be unfair, i.e. one person in a family creates 8 characters and everyone else can't create any characters at all.

tbh my dumbass ideal would be go a bit wild world-esque and have it be eight players per player residence, eight player residences per island, each residence tied to a single profile
so 64 players per island
though of course that is so far and beyond never ever happening, so not too bothered by
Totally agree with this, plus I really don?t like the profile selection screen that shows up every time you go to boot up any game if you have more than one profile on the Switch. Especially when I always use one profile for everything and the extras would only be for having multiple villagers in Animal Crossing. I like how in New Leaf no matter who is logged into your 3DS you can select any of the players in your town. I hope New Horizons does this but it?s not sounding like it unfortunately...
This would also cause an issue with adding friends. I like to play equally as all my villagers but only my main account will have friends added, and I?m not about to ask my friends to add my 7 other different profiles in order to play online with them as any of my villagers.
1 Island per switch console.
4 players max multiplayer in same console couch co-op. (Must all be characters from accounts made on the same switch system)
8 players max online multiplayer (Players CANNOT live on the same island is they are from different consoles.)
Each new player from an account made on the same switch console will not get a new island, they will become residents of the same island as the other accounts from the same console.
