Hey, Rover here again. It seems like a while since I've made a thread, hmm? So, with that in mind I've decided to make a thread relevant to what happened to me today...

As the title suggests, this thread has something to do with braces - you're not wrong there. In fact, to be even more specific, it has something to do with yours truly and braces.

If you've followed all the hints so far, you should have guessed... I've had my braces taken off today. Whoop whoop.
For anyone else who has experienced a fixed brace and had it taken off, they can relate to how it feels. Strange. Bleh, after about a year of them glued onto my teeth it's kind of a relief. The annoying thing is that my smile seems wildly unfamiliar, it seems like I'm wearing fake teeth since my 'old' teeth have never been so straight.
I had a retainer fitted too, which is a pain in the ass to keep taking off, cleaning and fitting in again after every piece of food that enters my mouth. But hey. At least I only have to wear it in the evening - lest my dwindling spark of popularity goes out. Trust me, I suck.

So, have anyone else had a their braces taken off and a retainer fitted? Or perhaps your quite new to the whole ordeal and have just had them fixed recently? If so, please feel free to comment below.

I think I might need braces..some of my teeth are slightly crooked thanks to my wisdom teeth pushing them. But I think I'm too old for them? I have never seen an adult with braces? Plus retainers are gross. How long do you have to have the retainer? I wouldn't use it. I don't even know what they do other then gross me out.

I know two adults who have braces and they are both older than 30.
I got my braces off around six months ago and the retainers vary. You could get a permanent retainer(won't have to worry about taking it out) or a removable one. They tell you to wear it for the rest of your life, though of course that's not constant. After several months of wearing it 24/7 you go to night time use only and then after another few months you go to wearing it only two or three nights a week. Retainers are used to keep your teeth straight so you won't need braces again. If you don't wear your retainer for a day and try putting it in afterward, you're going to notice it's a tighter fit because you teeth have already started to move.

I had braces from 8th-10th grade. It wasn't that bad. It actually went by pretty quick. The spacers were the worst part though!!!

My little sister had braces for a while. I don't remember her teeth being all that bad, but she had them regardless.
My boyfriend also used to have braces, though they were removed before I met him. The only reason I know he ever had them is because he'll wear his retainer overnight every now and then. His teeth were apparently doing some goofy stuff.
I've never had them since I never felt my teeth were that bad. The only crooked teeth that I have are my two front teeth, and it's not even really noticeable when you look at them. I've noticed that they've started overlapping slightly because of my wisdom teeth, but it's still not very noticeable or bothersome.

I needed two teeth taken out, then I had braces for two years (they said it would only take 1 year, liars!) and my teeth still aren't 100% perfect, but they're near enough. I remember how strange it felt when they were removed - like I had no teeth or something?! Weird. Now I have a retainer which I wear every other night. At first I was supposed to wear it every day and night, then just every night. Some people got a 'permanent' retainer (a wire glued to the back of the front rows of teeth) but I didn't, for some reason.
Do wear your retainer, because your teeth move!! This is really noticeable when I forget to wear my retainer, because it feels tight when I wear it again. I know somebody who had to pay thousands to get braces AGAIN in her late twenties (after having them as a teenager) because back then, her orthodontist told her she could bin her retainer after 6 months.

I have a permanent retainer on my bottom row of teeth and I love it so much more than my removable retainer(for the top). You don't have to worry about taking it out or worry about cleaning it after everything you eat. The only trouble that comes with it is when you are flossing, you have to thread it through the wire like you did your braces. Ugh.

I had them. I hated them. I kind of view them as a scam to get more money because my teeth looked FINE but they would keep putting off the removal date.

I hated having to wear removable retainers during the day - I snack frequently :3 so it was really inconvenient. The permanent one sounds good, apart from when you're flossing.

Maybe there's some truth in that! I had to practically beg them to remove my braces because I was so sick of them and my teeth looked fine, but they didn't want to because my teeth weren't *perfect* - apparently, orthodontists are notoriously perfectionist. I know lots of people who also had the removal date put off by months or years. It could be money, perfectionism, or maybe they just chronically underestimate the amount of time it takes braces to work :/

To be fair, they did a fantastic job of fixing my teeth. We're lucky to have the service available to us, I suppose.

I've had my retainers for about 2 years now and they can be a hassle when it comes to eating. I am somewhat of a forgetful person and forget to put them back on every now and then; one time I went months without wearing them o A o;! But they still do their job of keeping my teeth straight.

I had the rubber bands though. And one of the little things that holds the rubber bands was too weak and kept bending too much.

aren't you like 13?

Here you keep your braces on from like 10-16..

I had a permanent retainer for a bit and a removable retainer. Then braces with the rubber band thingys, and soon back to braces again because my orthodontist screwed up.

Ugh I hated those rubber bands. Once, I thought I'd swallowed one while I was sleeping. I was really worried they'd tie up my insides or something. My orthodontist said "You'll probably be fine, they're non-toxic." Gee, that's reassuring.

Ah, I've had braces before. Yeah I remember the feeling of having them taken off.. I couldn't stop rubbing my tongue against the outside of my top teeth. xD It was just so weird to have them bare after so long! However, while I did get a retainer, the treatment didn't stick. I wasn't done growing.. and while that may not effect some, it did to me. So, my second treatment was invisalign.. (sp?) and it sucked. It made my teeth appear straight right away, but it was SO SO SO painful every time I had to put on new trays. In the middle of it I also had to get surgery to remove a growth in my mouth caused by my original braces. ;-; then I couldn't wear my trays for a couple weeks and had to redo part of it..

My teeth were the biggest pain in the ass.. but I'm happy with them now, pretty much.

Never had braces, nope, my teeth are almost perfectly straight. I have a few fillings though, (and two silver crowns... They aren't noticeable as they used to be though because I used to have six crowns, now I have two and the two are at the back so no body notices unless I have a BIG smile on.).

I got braces during the summer before middle school, they were taken off the summer before high school.
I was that middle school kid with braces and glasses, small skinny. People thought I was a nerd and very smart.
Nope, just a weird looking special edu kid.
Smart at a cookie in a crayon box.

I've had braces for two years now, and I should be getting them off soon, but I'm not sure exactly when. I had a vampire tooth (a tooth was blocked by another and didn't come down. Plus, I'm missing one tooth now) so I had surgery to fix that a while back, and am going to again in the future to put an implant in.
