I know I'm not tripping, Blanche's original catchphrase is "Quite so." right?

Well apparently she and Muffy have been hanging out or I was playing the game in my sleep, because she's saying "Nightshade" now. I never change villager's little sayings so this comes as a shocker.

Have any of your villagers changed their phrases without talking to you about it first?

Yeah, other villagers can pass greetings and catchphrases onto other villagers without your presence. It can get a bit annoying if you like to keep villagers as original as possible

Ah, so many of my villagers trade catchphrases! Kiki gave Beau her "kitty cat" recently, which sounds funny coming from him. It doesn't bother me as much as when they trade shirts though :/ Half my villagers are wearing the same hideous shirt right now which makes me angry.

It's common; sometimes they'll copy the shirt of other villagers, too. Nothing unusual, though it's kinda annoying at time, especially when a penguin decides to change his catchphrase to "miau" from a cat villager (happened to me with Hopper and Tom >:V)

I knew about them having matching tshirts, that doesn't bother me. But I never had any idea that they'd swap greetings and stuff. that's crazy :O

The first time that happened to me it was Hugh (a pig) and Lily (a frog). Hugh started saying "zrrrrbit" and I thought it was the cutest thing ever

I give my animal's catchphrases just to watch them spread now. At one point my town had a cat, mouse, octopus and penguin went purr.

Yeah.. That is normal. I had my chicken walking around and saying hay-ok, hile the rest of the town had stolen her cluckadoo.

I had Fauna in my town-- her catchphrase was "dearie". I always thought it was adorable. Then Purrl started saying dearie. Then Poppy. Then Diana. Then Rhonda. And before I knew it, the whole town was saying dearie! ;)

Flurry in my first town (which I am currently in the process of converting into a cycling town) gave EVERYONE her catchphrase powderpuff. I called her the town's evil overlord for a while. ugh
