i caught one randomly in the town hall square...
for me its kinda random on where butterflys show up.
you can only catch them at midday, but i'd say they can appear from 11:00 to about 13:00
It appears where flowers are.
I found one early this morning. Near town hall.
It's random. Just walk around and midday and you'll see one. They're pretty fast though but I caught one so they're not impossible.
The first day I made my WW town I caught a birdwing butterfly
just make sure you have a net on hand, you'll come across it while just doing your daily things
