Biden HQ Island

It probably would have already been removed if Nintendo was going to. I guess it's been around for over a month. 🤷‍♂️ It might not even have any connection to Biden, as in, it just might be a fan made thing and Biden might not be aware it even exists. I don't know.
Oh. Seems a bit unfair then.

I said it once and I will say it again: I never thought I would see Animal Crossing becoming a platform for companies and such to advertise something, whatever it's a product, politic stuff etc. As creative as some of them might be (also to mention the effort they put into it), it really feels like that "How do you do, fellow kids?" meme someone already posted here if you look these up. It just feels weird IMO.

As long as I can keep stuff out of my copy of the game, I don't really care either way. Then again, I'm very indifferent to advertising in general unless I alread had significant interest in the thing from the start, and ads that stick with me tend to do so for their creativity without feeling tied to the product, or because they actively bothered me and go in the "bad" drawer.

This whole familiarity thing doesn't work on me. You offer a product/service, I buy that if I want/need it, and don't if I don't. The Gillette thing is just free designs to me and doesn't translate to me buying a real life thing I don't need. Similarly, I'd vote for a politician (or not) for their real life politics that affect mine and other people's real lives, not because they have an Animal Crossing island.

There have been quite a few articles written on this, from Polygon to places like the Washington Post and Forbes. Someone in this thread mentioned a parent who clearly wasn't familiar with Animal Crossing asking them about it, so it's apparently reaching a wider audience than just gamers.

I don't necessarily think that whoever came up with this idea planned on someone seeing a "vote Biden" sign in a virtual town and thinking to themselves "yes, I'm convinced... perhaps I shall". The fact is that as a result of this move, Biden is now being discussed in a slightly different context than the usual political news talk that happens nonstop during an election year; that may interest someone enough to inspire them to start a conversation they otherwise might not have with people they otherwise might not bring up politics around (not entirely unlike what's happened here). If that conversation reaches someone who was previously disinterested in politics it's unlikely to be enough alone to convince them to go out and vote, but it could possibly pique their interest enough that they might look into it further or feel slightly more comfortable participating in future political discussions. I don't think that's a bad thing.

I honestly do believe Biden probably doesn't even know it's happening, haha! Pretty sure he's got bigger things to focus on. This is likely all done by someone on the team who was already a fan of AC and just thought it was a good way to get his name out to the younger voters.
As much as I love the idea of Biden spending his free time catching bugs and fish in his meticulously planned ac town surrounded by his dreamies, I very much suspect that you're right:(

It is interesting stuff like that keeps happening. Does anyone know if there is one for Jo Jorgensen? I would love to go visit it if so!!

I noticed he has Raymond and Audie as villagers. And of course Apollo. The White House museum and the rose garden look nice.

I get what they are trying to do, but it really rubs me the wrong way when corporations, etc. try to advertise through ACNH. I play ACNH when I want a break from the real world and want to be left alone lol. I think its really desperate and cringe-y when people try to use ACNH as a platform to relate to younger audiences. Like someone else said on this thread, I wonder if this kind of advertising actually works in the long run.

Thankfully we can all still have a break from the real world. Biden isn't coming to our islands to give a speech or anything (that would be pretty hilarious actually) 😅 and can simply avoid reading/watching anything political when it comes to AC if you find it very bothersome.

Biden isn't trying to desperately connect to AC voters to win. This is just a fun little idea someone in his camp came up with. Again, there is a high likelihood he has had zero involvement other than maybe just approving the idea. No harm no foul.

People may find it cringe, but personally I think it's cute that someone in the Biden camp came up with such a well done presidential themed island. Kudos to whoever designed it! :)

People finding companies gaming cringy is kind of sad. People are still behind the company. People with hobbies, interests, loves for things, et cetera. Someone who loves a video game bringing up to their boss they'd like to theme an island around the company as a way to unite their job and their interests shouldn't be seen as cringy, IMO. I think it's very nice that not only do they have the idea, but they're allowed to.

I think it's very neat they do things in such creative ways that even many hardcore players might struggle to do ( aka meee, lmao ).

This feels very reminiscent of gatekeeping people from enjoying something because they're too old for it now, or they're not manly enough to enjoy wrestling, or too masculine to like ballet.

No one is forcing you to look at or engage with their 'advertising,' no one is forcing you to enjoy their creativity.
Until they start mailing out letters to everyone in the game and trying to win you over that way, live and let live, friends.

You're not hurt bc Cottonelle made some patterns you can take home. You're not going to be brainwashed because someone wrote JOE BIDEN in a 32 x 32 square grid and patterned it onto signs and scattered papers.

AC Is a game for creativity, for expression, for fun.
Let it remain that way.

Any politician worth their salt knows that if they ever hope to amount to anything, they must first lock down that crucial animal crossing vote. (Joking)

I think this was most likely a staffer looking to show some initiative. It's a cute idea and it's generated some buzz, so I think it can be considered at least a modest success.

The island is also quite pretty and creative. I agree that they did a great job.

I don't think it's a big deal that Joe Biden or any other politician uses Animal Crossing or any other video game to promote their campaigns. It doesn't affect your game and it's totally up to you if you visit or not.Any company, politician, etc. that has something to sell always targets the younger demographic.Start 'em buying your product when they're young and they'll be a customer for life.It kind of works.Bill Clinton was a guest on the Arsenio Hall show when he ran against George H.W. Bush in 1992.At the time,Arsenio Hall's show had a relatively young audience and Clinton put on a pair of sunglasses and played the saxophone with Arsenio's band.I was still in my twenties at the time and it blew my mind that a candidate for President would do something like that because up to that time Presidential candidates were a bunch of boring old guys(except JFK).Imagine Richard Nixon playing jazz drums or Walter Mondale thumping on a bass guitar(you can't,really).

Anyways,I visited Biden HQ and I saw some pretty creative stuff there.A lot of time and effort was put into that island and as a longtime fan the Animal Crossing series I can certainly appreciate that. Also, any island that has Tangy is ok by me.

This summed up my thoughts quite sufficiently. Politicians playing the same game as me (though we can assume he doesn't realistically have time to play animal crossing and it's just an assistant or someone) isn't going to make a difference to me or not. No harm done either way, I'm entirely indifferent to this tactic

Completely aside from the political factor, this island is adorable HAHA

I don't think it's cringe at all, I like that everyone can enjoy this game however they please, whether it be casual or to make a statement.
