what do you all think the best way to pass the time in-game is, both at day and at night when no villagers are awake?
normally in the day i collect flowers and put them on the beach,
and at night i either go to the island and catch stuff or plant things like bamboo for paths

My town is a huge WIP and I have lots of daily "chores" to do that pass lots of time. Like working at the roost, finding all the fossils and donating, moving flowers where they need to be, planting trees and bamboo and bushes, planning and placing PWPs, paying another payment on my house, etc etc
If no one's awake and I'm really trying to kill time, sometimes I'll fish/dive to get more of those to donate to the museum!

Catchin some fish! I realized I tend to ignore fishing/bug catching when I'm doing other things for the villagers, so I do it in the morning and at night :')

i move flowers around and also just walk around my town a lot. in tuesday i really focus on how fun it is to run around the town and move and i try to have very fluid paths and stuff to walk on (natural paths of flowers and trees, not planted paths because i think it's harder to make them very fluid)

I fish. I have always been a big fisher in the game since that was how I originally made my fortunes in the original games before you could just purchase bells online with tbt. I would sometimes fish all night long while my husband and baby slept. I find it highly relaxing the the bells pile up. Other than that, if I have starts, I landscape. I absolutely LOVE landscaping. I just wish the creators would add a function that would allow us to purchase all the starts we wanted and not have to only purchase two a day.

If the shop is still open, I like to challenge myself to how many fish and bugs I can catch. I grab my timer and time out 5mins and catch and fish away. If the store is closed, I usually go bug Isabell cause she never seems to sleep. I have a mess around with the town tune and then look at PWPs and see if there are any I like and where they could potentially go in town.

At night time, you just HAVE to visit the island.. For the obvious reasons! Of course.

Right now during the day time, I like to move around my flowers if I feel that they need to be moved and replanting new bushes. I am desperately trying to get my perfect town thingy - Isabelle keeps saying I need more greenery... Makes no sense to me D: I feel like I have too much HA. Ugh.

I love visiting DA's to get inspiration for my town and then looking at PWP to see where they could go :D

I used to visit the island a lot to catch bugs or do the Tortimer mini-games. But aside from that I don't really know, grinding out badges can take long lol...

Since my new town Luna was created just over a month ago, I still have a lot to figure out with that and work on getting PWP requests from villagers, I fish as much as I can, search for new bugs, and if it's late at night, I visit dream towns to get inspiration for my new town or if I want to fix up an area in Serenity.

Back when I played the game I'd always be planning out my town, going to the island for flowers, and exclusive items, hanging out with villagers, going to dream towns for inspiration, looking online for new QR codes, playing with friends, there were always something to do.
At night I'd either go to the island for them bug moneys, or just continue doing what I did during the day.
I guess being creative and all I just never got bored of trying to make my town as perfect as I could, eventually I reached the PWP limit cap, I had finished the paths, flower patterns, stumps, trees, etc, and so I stopped playing, only thing I never finished were collecting all the badges, and finishing my house entirely, oh well.

I usually run around waiting for pwp requests. I also landscape. And if i really feel up to it, ill decorate my house.
