What is the best town map to have? Or, if there's not such a thing as the 'best' town map, what do town maps have on them that people select them for? (For example, Re-Tail close to train tracks.)

For me, a desirable town map would have retail close to the beach, so it's easy to sell things you catch from the islands. Also, based on seeing other people's towns, I think a plaza in the top half of the town looks really nice c: Of course, not knowing about these things when I started my town, my retail is toward the top, and my plaza is on the bottom half of my map cx It's ok though, I wouldn't say their placements make my town 'undesirable,' so yeah :D

Personally I like to have my town plaza on the top left or right of my map. I don't mind much where my re-tail is but usually I like if it's in the middle strip of the town (PixelsV2 has it in the middle of the top half and Alleyway has it in the middle of the bottom half)

Campgrounds I don't really give a spam

I look for a map that has: (1) an unbroken beach with a small "mini beach" accessible only by wetsuit. (2) Re-tail close to the ramp leading directly to the dock. (3) Enough room to place my home close to the ramp with no room for any newcomers to squeeze between me and the cliff/ramp. (4) I want the Town hall nearby but it's not critical, as is the Event Plaza. I want these two on the same side of the river (south) as me. (5) I prefer to have all five original varmints above the river and away from me but this is not a deal breaker. (yes, I'm a bit of a recluse)....(6) a half-dozen rocks is ok but, more than that gets uncomfortable. (7) At least 2 ponds and not more than 3. That's all that comes immediately to mind, but.......

I personally look for maps that have a sizeable space of land and like most others avoid narrow strips (I'm looking at you, river) - they're just really inconvenient to design around for PWPs, and not very pleasing to look at. I don't mind ponds at all - my current town only has one, but honestly I'd have preferred two or three. I don't like having the town plaza (which is huge) close to the train tracks or the cliffs. Having an inaccessible (small) beach, retail close to dock, town hall south, or plaza centred would be slight bonuses.

This would be ideal for me, but there's only so much resetting I'm willing to do lol

- apple as the native fruit
- plaza not in the corner
- zig zag or mostly vertical river
- no private or isolated beach that can only be accessed with wetsuit

For me I like:
• Townhall and Re-tail to be close together, then I build the coffee shop near by and turn it into a little market area.
• Two or less ponds.
• South-facing rivers are nice so you get a good view of the waterful! But not necessary.
• I just got a town with a private beach for the first time, and I like the idea of it, but don't have the wetsuit yet

I like having my campground entrance by a building, like the town plaza or town hall. I like river setups that give you a lot of little nooks and corners to put PWPs and buildings in, and really long beaches. And I like all my major buildings to be on the top half of town if I can help it, unless there's a really good place for a bridge. I also hate oranges and square grass, so I can handle basically any other pattern or fruit except those.

Ask yourself this question: What do I want with my town?

My first town, Applewin, has a map that is really good. But, this goes back to August 2013. And I did not control it like I tended to do with later towns. (I’m talking about thinking it through. Doing my best to control where villagers’ houses would be located. What my vision was for a town.)

My second town, ACNLpics, has a theme town where villagers’ pictures are on display in three of four houses. In the fourth house, special characters’ pictures are on display. It is a museum town. And that is why the humans’ houses are on the south side of ACNLpics.

My third town, Foster, was intended for having all humans’ and villagers’ houses be located in the south, close to the beach. And I came up with a map in which the Plaza is in the center. I had enough room to have the Cafe, the Town Hall, and the Police Station neighbor each other on the east side. (It is a U-shaped town.)

Here are links to three previous threads I created. They include pictures. The maps are included. So are the Dream Addresses.

I personally look for a retail close to the docks, few ponds and rocks, a relatively nice shaped river and no cherries (hate cherry anything irl so I don't want them in my game).

Things I don't exactly need in a map but they're nice if I happen to get them are a vertical beach ramp, private beach, a big open area with no other houses for my own house, and apples.

i like:

* central plaza
* retail near the dock
* i don?t really care where the other buildings are as long as they are not right next to each other. neat suburban rows are not my thing. that goes for my animals too. scatter yourselves all over the map please, and don?t even think of moving next to me (unless you?re kiki. every witch needs a black kitty)
* a secluded river bend or peninsula for my house
* at least 2 ponds
* southern waterfall
* private beaches are a bonus, cherries/apples and circle grass too

For someone who hasn't really resetted that much but hoping to get a nice map for my second town, I don't have many things I want, the main thing I want is a private beach, the re tail, town hall and stuff not too close together I rather have it spread out. And the river to be a nice shape. By looking at other people's map I don't mind to have a straight line river or soemthing weird for once XD Also not too many ponds or rocks, though I don't mind how many ponds there are, but rocks aren't something I hope for.
